BX BH dolly project.

I actually just use two simple mover's dolly's for mine...one rated for 1,200# under the frame and for 800# under the bucket. Quite stable and very simple.

Volfandt. How do you keep the dolly from moving while your attaching or deattaching the BH?

Not to answer for Mr. Volfandt, but personally I use the stabilizers to get the weight off the frame and use the bucket, while being cradeled in a dollie, to rotate the BH forward as necessary to release the locks.

At that point, the bucket is in a dollie, the stabilizers are holding the assembly up, and I can ease my tractor forward to clear the subframe.

THEN I put the 1200# dollie under the BH frame and lower the BH frame onto it using the stabilizer controls. I also make sure the boom lock is in place.

When done, I have the bucket in a dollie and the frame on a dollie...8 little wheels total...and I am free to maneuver.

I'm sure his procedure isn't much different...he just pushes up on his dollie and from that point forward the whole thing is pretty immobile. The biggest upside to a one-piece design is just in case you have bleed-down of the dipperstick ram...one-piece isn't a big deal...doing what I do, the whole assembly could fall flat on its face, but I've had it off the tractor for 2 weeks once and it was fine. Biggest problem was bleed-down of the stabilizers...they start sliding down a little and increase the assembly's 'girth'. Nothing a stout bungie couldn't fix.

If you don't mind me asking what are the casters you used rated at for the weight and how tall are the wheels? Also what are they all steel?

Ahh, and I was going to blow leaves this weekend. Thanks for giving me something else to do. I like the idea of storing the BH with the stabilizers up. If it stays pretty much in the 25" x 48" area of the dolly, I have just the spot for it in the garage and would allow me to get the tractor easily in the garage.

stuarth, I don't know what the rateings were on the casters as I took them off of a heavy duty bakery table. They are about 3" tall. I'd say any heavy duty caster should work. The key to a BH dollie is using the lowest profile casters available, this makes it easier to mount/dismount.
As for my homemade BH dollie, so far so good ;D

That's for the info on the casters. I went to Tractor Farm and Supply and about fell over at the cost of the casters and did not buy them. I came home and looked on the web. found some 300lb for $10 each with 4" wheel. Anyone else have any other ideas or the rating please let me know. The wood is cut and the bolts are purchased already.

I got my casters from northern tool #189341. The only issue I had with the setup was I didn't bolt the 2x4's into the 2x12's far enough towards the middle and broke the 2x12's when I was putting pressure on them when loading it. Going to have to replace the 2x12's and use more bolts!!

bobzap, I bought a dolly exactly like Volfandt's at Harbor FReight though it's much smaller. Actually I had to buy two and space them to 60" with some leftover decking to accomodate my Landpride tiller approx. 500#. The dollies are sold as furniture movers and are rated at approx 600 to 800lbs. Harbor Freight had dollies somewhat larger made of angle. H.F. also carry a good selection of wheels. After buying Larry's mower axles I want all my attachments on dollies. Good luck !!!

Can't remember where I read it, but I think it's around 660 lbs.

It should be in your specs...The BX25 BH is around 600lbs...IIRC

OK, I checked on Kubota's site and they list it at 617 lbs for the BX25 BH...

Here's a link to a build I did for a bh65 dolly. I just used casters from Home Depot and it works fine, even under the extreme pressure of putting the BH on and off the tractor. My BH according to kubota weighs 1400 lbs w/ the subframe.
