BX and Post hole digger

I would like to purchase a 3pt post hole digger from either Agri-Supply or Northern Tools.
Does anyone have experience with either of these implements when used on the BX2200?
I have read about problems with the BX2200 3pt configuration with some post hole diggers
and hoped to get some feedback from BX owners about installation and use of these products.

I was told by a Kubota dealer a few weeks ago that Kubota does not recommend that you use a post hole digger with the BX series tractors. Cant say if they were being honest, or just trying to see me a larger tractor though since I told them I need to dig a bunch of holes.

Considering that my dealer has had BXs set up with PHDs on the back it's probably just your dealer. Couple other threads on this subject are at:

I think the consensus is that it can be done and it works fine - but watch out for long augers. A post hole digger is also on my short list (which seems to be getting longer), so I'm interested in real world use stories on the BX myself.

What would you think would be considered a long auger? The holes I need to put in are for a high-tensile fence. The 8 ft long posts need to be 4 ft in the ground.

Most of the post hole diggers Ive seen advertised would need an extension to reach that depth.

I honestly don't know - all I know is that there have been reports that longer augers can drag on the ground ... I'm interested to hear what the guys who use the augers on their BXs come back with. It's been many months since those original threads were posted.

I have the Worksaver 300 with 9" x 30" auger. My BX2200 handles with no problem. Have dug many holes with it, from hard clay to boggy mud. Make sure to change pins from Cat.0 to Cat. 1. Due to the low position of the BX, I think you will have trouble digging 4' holes. Checkout www.worksaver.com.

Your dealer is trying to sell you more tractor than you want. In the brocure and the manual it lists post hole diggers and size range. Some units may not be suitable for the BX but Kubota has a unit listed for the BX and I too have seen them on the units at the dealer. Not sure what brand but they had plenty of ground clearance and looked just spiffy on the BX. J

Well, I borrowed my cousin-in-law's post hole digger. He say's it is equivalent to a Worksaver 500. I got it attached (had to reverse the lower pins) and it worked perfectly. I had over a foot of clearance in the full up position and could dig a 4 foot hole with no problem. I hit some softball sized rocks and it spit them out without any strain on the engine. In fact, I was suprised how little effect the digger had on the motor.
My only problem now is convincing my wife to let me buy my own when I can borrow her cousin's. However, she wasn't the one who had to load/unload it from my truck - not alot of fun.

Good feedback on the post hole digger. That is the real world usage we (BX'ers) need to hear about instead of the speculation there always seems to be concerning the capabilities of the BX. Thanks.

You created a post hole 48" deep with a BX2200?

I didn't measure the auger length, but it was sure longer much longer than 3 feet - guessing 4 feet. I'll measure tonight and let you know. Also, I forgot to mention the auger was 12" wide (I'm sure of this).

Thanks, I would love to know how deep those holes were. Most augers are in the 40" range, but you can only get about 32-36 inches of actual depth.

My eyes sure are bigger than my tape measure/w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif. The auger is 36" with a useable depth of 32-34". Those holes sure seemed 4 feet deep when I was cleaning them out with my hand post hole digger.

That is excellent news, thanks! You stated in an earlier post that you had a foot or so of ground clearence, so you should be able to add a short extension and then dig to 36" /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

That will teach me to believe dealers "You cant use a post hole digger with a BX".
