Well, it finally broke at 150 hours. Kindof annoying. But, it was nice to feel that old acid eating my stomach when I heard that awful clatter from under the hood when I idled down.
I used a razor blade to peel the rubber insulator back so I didn't catch it afire while welding.

I don't really like welding sheet metal and I had to pull a nice ale to steady my hands after all the coffee and copenhagen from the morning. I just lightly washed the the inside of the bracket with 3/32" 6011 @ 60 amps then put 2 nice tacks on the outside. Dang ... my glossy gray paint didn't match.
Cheers!

Homebrew2,

Nice job!. 6011's are not easy to do finish work with. With the hood closed, no one will see the paint mismatch!

Thanks, Gary. Welding that little stuff would probably be easier for me if I didn't have to waste the first few scratches trying to figger out which pane of my trifocals to look thru /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Any thoughts on why it broke in the first place? Must be vibration related.......were all the locating bolts down tight? Were there any extra support brackets missing?
Otherwise, nice job, but it will probably break again somewhere else (right next to your weld is common)if you don't figure out why it broke in the first place. I'd be curious to know.........

If you check the Kubota forum, this is not uncommon.

As pekabu said, is a known prob. Though I knew it existed, I haven't read the conversations about it. It looked to me that the strap needed a lot more overlap than it had and thus more spot welds too. The mounting system seemed to be complete and as designed ... the bolts so doggone tight that I nearly twisted the entire bracket off the head trying to get them loose. I'm sure it's a vibration prob. I suspect it'll break again too. I was going to cut a sheet metal patch and drill and rivet it but took the easy way out cuz I was in the middle of a little grading project. ... I always have time to do a job twice instead of right /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
