SWEEEET!...you got an awesome deal. If you think you're getting ripped at you local dealer, try getting one up here in mooseland!!!

When I was looking the best price I got was the "on the lot sale" and there was only one BX24 on the lot and it sold fast at that price :(. About $22,000.00 the regular dealer price is just over 26k for those here and they don't budge much off those prices. On the good side I got my 7800 for just a bit more than a regular priced BX24 so I got no regrets so it all works out in the end!

Have fun with the BH, I'm loving mine!!! :D

From a dealer's viewpoint for what it's worth:
1. The dealer you bought from can lower his price because he has almost nothing (time) invested in you. And he knows he won't ever see you or the tractor again, so he again has no future cost (time) that he may have to invest to sell you this tractor.
2. The dealer you bought from wishes to remain anonymous, not to keep you from hurting your future relationship with your local dealer, but to keep his flagrant violation of his SIGNED dealer agreement with Kubota Tractor Corporation from becoming known. He could lose his status as a Kubota dealer by selling tractors in this manner and he oblviously fears this possibility.
3. Are you still comfortable with your great deal by knowing that your tractor was assembled and prepped by dealership that doesn't mind "bending' the rules? Might they cut a few corners in order to save money so they can undercut prices? Surely you don't mind that they might not have checked all of the items on the delivery checklist? You know, things like wheel bolt torque, or fluid levels, or brake free play? You did get a signed copy of the pre-delivery checklist didn't you?
4. There are dealers near enough to me that will sell for much less than what I will, but I find it curious that alot of "their" customers bring the units to me for warranty and service work. Could it be that by my "ripping" my customers on sales price that I am able to offer them better service after the sale, thereby giving a long term value that more than offsets the perceived savings that comes from buying cheap. I try to staff my dealership with quality people and pay them a fair price for that quality.
5. I offer a fair price to my customers, I even post my price on my inventory. My starting price is usually between 8 and 11% off of suggested list. i don't think that is "ripping" my customers.

Something to think about.

Hey Gladiator

As i said before- i don't mind people making money, but do you think 20500-21500 is a "fair" price on a bx24??? Thats what these guys wanted. I shopped around, and i felt i got a good deal from a reputable dealer. Being the unit was a demo with 5 hrs i don't think he broke any rules as this is not considered a "new" machine. As far as kubotas rule on local sales only, i think its totally wrong. Why should I, living in NY, be subject to rediculas pricing while a guy from SC gets it for 3-4 grand less than me. All i wanted was a fair price, and this machine would have been bought in NY if the price was "fair"! It just pisses me off when a dealer up here says "take it or leave it" thinking i can't get it out of state....well guess what.........i did

When I was looking at buying, I first looked at a deere. The dealer here no longer sells "smaller" stuff and just sells the skidder type equipment and commercial stuff. Smallest machine he could get was a 110 I think. He sent me to a dealer about 3 hours away, the next closest one that sold what I wanted and I talked to the guy on the phone, super nice guy very helpfull. I also got a hold of a dealer in Manitoba, about 8 hours away and lives near my mom. Also very nice. His price was about 1500$ less than the dealer 3 hours away.

I called the first dealer back and asked if he could match the price, I'd even pay a little more as it would save me a trip and still cost me less in the long run. He said "no" but once that Manitoba dealer found out where I was from he would probably not sell me the machine??? and if he did then when I tried to register it Deere would probably not allow me to do so and therefore no waranty because I bought it in a different district??? After counting to 10 and calming down my blood pressure I said Adios deere and went orange. There were a few other factors to be fair but this Deere policy was unbelieveable, it would probably be easier to buy something from North Korea and bring it back here than jumping through these Deere hoops!!! BTW all the Kubota dealers I talked to said nothing about this (maybe the same policy exists but no canadian dealers mentioned it) except one from the states, but that I can understand, different country and all, but two dealers in the same country and only a few hours apart??? Bottom line is the internet has made a lot of consumers WAY more savy and knowledgeable in almost everything, including tractors. It's a global market, and these policies will have to change, consumers will be demanding it!

My 0.02$

I can understand dealer agreements to prevent some yahoo in Nevada from selling his BX24's for $12,500 over the internet, providing free delivery, and otherwise INTENDING to steal business from other dealers near and far.

As far as I see it, America is still free. (It is, right? No passports and declarations at state lines and such?) As such, we are given the right to purchase our yard/farm equipment from whomever we choose. Any company that has POLICY in place to give local dealerships an ABSOLUTE AND BUILT-IN MONOPOLY on the local consumers is, in my opinion, terrible and inconsistent with a consumer driven corporation. Let's face it...Kubota (or any other company) is (or shoud be) in business to take care of consumers who by their products...no consumers, no purchase, no dealers, no product. It starts with making us (the purchasers) happy with the brand.

I would be MUCH more upset as a corporation (Kubota) to hear that some dealers are hiding behind these "Policies" to jack up their prices in certain areas. Moreover, it would seem on the surface that some of the dealers discussed in this thread HAVE DISCUSSED their prices and keep them SIMILARLY HIGH to give the perception to area customers that they are "fair". Some informed authorities call that price fixing, and it is discouraged, and ILLEGAL, in about every arena of business.

The $17k and change number is a good, fair price. As I said at the beginning of this chain. It sounds like Mr. Gladiator sells in about the same range. I know my dealer does, thankfully.

Therefore, I would continue to direct the scrutiny on fluctuations in local pricing on those that are abnormally "HIGH" than those that are abnormally "FAIR".

Water flows downhill. And consumers go to better prices. This is the way of things. Personally, I would (and did) pay my local dealer a "fair" $15k for my setup. And I WOULD NOT UNDER MOST ANY CIRCUMSTANCES go with the afore mentioned "Nevada" scenario. I figure most would be in my boat. But if my dealer was charging $17k or $18k and the guy 4 counties over was charging $15k??? Guess where I'm going??? Please tell me what's wrong with that?

Thanks. I feel a little better. Add that to Mark's (Taiser's) $0.02, and we could perhaps buy a piece of candy somewhere.

And by the way, Mr. PitBull, nice rig. I sort-of wish a little since I'm about to drop $5k on a Woods BH6000, but you can't go back, right? Enjoy!

66gladiator can you tell us the particulars of this portion of the dealer agreement....does it simply prevent another Kubota dealership within a certain distance of an established dealership or does it prevent a Kubota dealership from sales outside of a certain territory? I have trouble believing that Kubota would insist on the latter.

I just purchased a BX24 TLB in Maryland for $15,900 (fair but not great price) and added a 60 inch mower for $1,600 (I think it lists for $1,750). A great dealer from North Carolina offered a price $500 lower but with shipping of $800, the local deal was better. The 36 month 0% was also a really good deal.

I really recommend the NC dealer, if local dealers are not giving reasonable discounts.

I am not positive but I think what 66 is refering to is MAP ( Minimum advertised price) pricing policies which would be found in alot of dealer contracts. Hence the word "advertised". That type of policy dictates that you can not advertise any prices lower that that set by the manufacturer. However, it does not dictate how you sell, close deals, or give discounted prices on directly to the customer. That is actually illeagal. No manufacturer can tell a dealer how much to sell said product for... only advertise. :D Now as far as a "quality" dealer battling a lesser dealer selling lower than "dealer A's" profitable markup percentage. That is simple, keep rolling the way you are and keep your mark ups profitable, focus on service and customer support and you will succeed and outlast "dealer B" that feels like he needs to give it away. If a customer pins you with the question " Dealer B" said he would sell it to me for this much, why cant you match it". It is easy enough to point to the dealership, service center ect and say... " In order for us to provide you with the best service possible for the life that you own this tractor, it has to be profitable enough to keeps the lights on" . Which is nothing more than the truth. I drove about 30 miles to my closest Massey dealership, and paid a little more than what other Massey dealerships had quoted me and quite a bit more than the local Kubota dealership quoted me for a 24 because that dealership "earned" my money.
