bx 24 trans fan woes

Hi all, I have fallen victim to the 24's "soft underbelly" and lost my transmission fan. After reading all the posts concerning this issue I would like to know if any one has come up with an easier solution to replacing the plastic fan? I have read some split the fan, has this proven to be reliable?

There is a TBN member called SEOhDave who described his "split fan" repair in 2009. (I copied his description to the fan page on the BX wiki). Maybe you could send him a message asking how it's holding up.
