I have never needed them on my BX23 either.
We havent had any snow or ice in the 28 monthes i've owned it -Sure beats a set of chains seven ways from Sunday.
May not last as long as chains though.

Did you put chains on the front also?

I have not put chains on the front. Yet. I've found the need for chains on the front is exacerbated by use of a blade instead of a thrower. I have both blower and blade but with our large amount of slush this year I have found the blade to be quite effective while the blower sometimes has trouble with this muck. Hate to say that because IMO the blower is a much better solution, usually.

It is my plan to put chains on the front as well. I have not yet ordered them but probably will this week.

No chains on the front. A while back someone posted there was a clearance problem with chains on the front tires so I took his advise.

As far as taking the wheels off is concerned, I would suspect it would be better to leave them on the tractor for loaded and/or large tires because of handling issues. The BX's, however, have relatively small tires and there is very little clearance underneath to string the chains. The ture lugs on the R-4's make it even tougher to wrap around and properly center on the tire while wallowing around on the floor. In all candor, it took much less time to install the chain with the wheel off than I spent the other way before I gave up on the idea.

Try it. You'll like it!

Here's another vote for taking the wheel off. I was able to get the chains on much tighter. This was a real consideration for me given the rather lengthy time the chains will probably be on this year. If the chains are on too loose, they start slapping the "L"-shaped orange handle that's used to (dis)mount the hoe. Don't ask me how I know.

Hi Spud:
FWIW:
The directions with the chains I got for my L4400 said to put them on loose enough to be able to get a fist between the sidewall and the chain. Tighter than that and tires will wear much faster they claim. 14.9 X 24 inch ag tires. Pics in November post.

Have no problems putting chains on while wheels are on tractor, just jack up back of tractor so wheels rotate.Chains are on in 15 minute's max. Also make sure there are no loose ends AT ALL on the left inside, hyd. lines easily damaged. I always keep chains tight, use chain tightener's like small bungee cords.

Problem is that some of these folks are just too young to have experienced installing chains on there automobiles during a snow storm and taking them off after the snow storm. Those were back in the days before radial tires, and snow tires were just a dream for the future. Back then, I could put the chains on the rear tires in about 15 minutes from start to finish, and not even get dirty. It was a necessity that we went through quite a number of time during the winter. :)

I have a customer needing tire chains for his BX 24 and I was wondering where you get them. Kubota does not offer a tire chains package so who does?

I have found several sets on E-bay think bx tires are 26x12.00x8 but check. Some you can get for $20 a set others think gold and $110. Have found both2 and 4 ladder chains but don't remember which was more $. Almost wrong season 2B looking thou.

Hmmm ya I wish there was a company that made them specifically for the Kubota machines so I could buy as kits for particular machines I guess I will have to just do the research and know my tire sizes to get the right ones individually. Thanks - Hal
