My BX 24 is shutting down when I touch the forward or reverse peddle at times. any one have any idea what is causing this. Thank You

Could be the seat is not latched all the way, causing the safety switch to be open. This happened to me the other day doing BH work and when I went to reposition the tractor, the seat wasn't latched all the way and it would die as soon as I pushed the pedal.

Unlatching and relatching the seat got it back to normal.

Also make sure your shirt didn't catch the PTO lever when you got off or on. On my tractor, if that lever is moved 1/4", it triggers the safety switch. Also make sure you're not sitting on the hood while trying to drive. :D

Wait, I'm thinking of starting, not shutting down. Ignore me. :)

Even if the seat is latched down correctly, you may be leaning too far forward in the seat, especially when the tractor is facing downhill. If you are not putting enough weight at the back of the seat to tell the safety switch that there is an operator in the seat, the safety switch will kill the engine.

If you find this is a frequent problem you could make an adjustment to the switch or add some dead weight to the seat.

I had that problem. It was a broken safety sensor holder. The sensor was never being engaged even though my butt was in the seat. Once I hit the foot pedal--shut down.

I had the same exact thing happen on mine. If I leaned to the left it would shut off, to the right it would stay running. It turned out that the bol that holds the seat to the frame came loose (actually one of the nuts came off and the other nut became loose.) There are little white plastic spacers and two ball bearings in there, they had come out and slid under the seat and the mounting plate.

For a while it was the darnest thing, I finally found it by accident.

I called the dealer to come and look at it, espeically since I didn't know where the nut came from.

Hope that helps.

I had the same problem and it was the white plastic spacers under the seat had come out and got jammed between the seat and the seat frame. The seat wouldn't latch all the way properly and the engine would start sputtering especially if over rough terrain.
