BX 22
Hello,
This past weekend my BX 22 with 70 hours on it developed a popping noise that seemed to be associated with the tractor front end. When the noise was heard I could also feel it in the floor board of the tractor, kind of like a poping sound....the kind of sound and feeling of a load shifting when there was a little slack somewhere.

I first noticed the the popping when I was using the tractor to move full loads of gravel in the front bucket. The backhoe was also on the tractor at the time.

I have looked it it further, and from what I can see the noise and popping feeling seems to be coming from the front axle. There seems to be about 1/32 to 1/16 inch play in the rear pivot shaft on the front end. ( the ob-long shaft sticking out of the front axle that the front end pivots up and down on). I tightend the front adjustment nut up one notch and the noise was almost eliminated, but I feel the nut may be to tight because when the front is lifted of the ground the axle doesn't pivot up and down as free as I would expect.

Has anyone else noticed this with their BX 22? and if so is this just a normal thing? as I said I first noticed it when I had a full load of gravel in the front bucket and I dont seem to notice it without a good load in the bucket, I dont recall hearing/feeling it before and I have 99 % of the hours on the machine spent moving dirt and scraping with the front bucket.

Thanks in advance

The manual displays the proper torque for this nut which isnt suppose to need adjustment until 800 hours. the axle bumps the frame slightly, uses it for a stop

Yes,
I did read that the nut does not require adjustment until much later, I did loosen the nut back up to the factory adjustment.

The noise/popping it not related to the axle pivoting up against the frame stop, but it is caused from the axle moving fractionally frontward/rearward. ( as if you pushed the tire toward the rear or to the front of the tractor, there is just enough play to cause a little noise that you can hear as well as feel with your feet if you happen to be using the tractor when the axle moves.)

The problem I'm having maybe normal. I don't know, but I do know that it is very difficult to describe to someone that cant see the tractor for themselves.

Thanks

Does this pivit pin have a grease nipple, if so try to grease it. My BX 1500 with 32 hrs. has about 1/8-1/4 in. of movement.

Thanks for the reply,
As far as I know there is not a grease fitting for the front end, but I will make sure.
