When you press on one cap, the cross bearing should push the other cap out of the yoke completely. Then you turn it over and push on the other side of the cross bearing through the hole in the yoke where the cap was removed. I don't understand why this won't work for you. If it doesn't come out then, try using a vice grip to pull it out the rest of the way. I took my deck off, and I notice that you need to remove the grease fitting before removal of the cross bearing.
