2008 BX 1860
I have a BX 1860, and am considering a King Kutter 48 inch tiller. The tiller label says 20 to 25 hp. I believe the BX has about 13 or 14 hp at the rear PTO. I am going to do small food plots on mostly light sandy loam. Will the little BX have enough power for the small tiller?

When I bought my 2660 (19 pto hp) the dealer told me that he usually recommended a 42" offset tiller. Most folk I think run 48"ers on their BXs, and I saw a post recently were someone was running a 60. I'm getting a 48.

I'm running a 60" on my BX 25. The tractor ran it like it wasn't there. I think the width thing really comes into play when you are dealing with rough, rocky or wet soil that could load it up more. My soil is good black dirt. It tills up beautifully. At any rate, I think your BX will handle a 48" well in the conditions you describe. This is however just my opinion. Some guys will say that if you grab a big root, a brick or rock it could damage your tractor, but I think that could be the case with any size tiller. Make sure to have the correct shear pin or slip clutch, IMO that is the most important thing.

You can read about my experience here http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-owning-operating/200910-turning-up-some-soil-today.html

This 15 HP 2 Cyl Diesel runs this 48'' KK Tiller like it hain't back there.

I dont think they had XB series back in lbrown's day when he first got the tiller.

If you look closely at the lable, you can see it does say XB.

The 3 pt hitches on early BXs, especially the BX1500 were not comfortable, shall we say, with anything much beside XB.

Frankly, though my BX1860 had the newer, improved 3 pt geometry, it still worked better with XB implements.
