BX 1800 ENGINE LIFE EXPECTANCY

Glad your not my Dr. I sure wouldn't want to hear about that one person out of 10 million that got ED when he took a flu shot like it was just a common occurance.

I'm sorry, maybe next time I'll stick to topics more palpable, like how to install cup holders or toolboxes. I'm sure my 25 years of real world Kubota repair experience will more useful there.

I think its good you shared that bx casualty:)

Just goes to show us even tho they are bulletproof, common sense still applies to keep them running!

Maybe so if your going to drop extreme and rare occurances as possibly routine.
Which Kubota Dealer did you work for the 12 years you posted earlier that you worked? Guess you self employed or went to/from another dealer the other 13 working on Kubotas?

Not sure why you're taking such offense to Brain55's posts...he just stated an extreme example, I knew the point he was making. I didn't take it as normal. If I've read his posts correctly, he's a self employed equipment tech and has been for quite some time.

He should have told the circumstances and that it was a one time occurence in 25 years of working on thousands of Kubotas. The way it was tossed out, in my opinion, was almost a common occurance. New buyers are scared enough wondering if they spent to much for a mower or small tractor. Plus so many disagreements between owners and the phony posts by the mentally disturbed. No problem with the info but should have been clarified in the situation.

I to as you knew it wasn't normal. We've owned several and feel secure what they are and what they will do. This, I believe, was to a new owner that was expressing some concern about durability. That's my entire point and the reason I'm responding. It is not a normal routine maintenance occurance or problem with BX Kubotas.

I'm purchasing a BX 1800 with 460 hrs on it and I'm wondering what kind of longevity I should expect from the engine.

Thanks

Even with reasonable maintenance you should expect 6000 hrs., with exceptional care 10,000 hrs. wouldn't be unheard of. On the other hand with no maintenance I've rebuilt Kubota engines with as few as 80 hrs.

Brian

The beginning.

I honestly don't see the need to justify my experience to you. But seeing that you seem to be questioning my knowledge I'll make an exception. I spent 6 years at Waseca Kubota Tractors in Dublin and Livermore, CA and another 6 at Jenkin's Machinery/Farwest Equipment in Concord, CA., which was also a New Holland, Massey Ferguson, and Ransome/Cushman/Ryan dealer. I have been self-employed with my own equipment repair business for 6 of the last 14 years. In the middle of which I went to work for one of my customers, taking care of his fleet for his landscape contracting business, where he had nearly 100 Kubotas, Bobcats, Ditch Witches, and New Hollands combined, plus 100 trucks. It took me and 4 guys underneath me to keep it all running. If you took my statement as a knock against Kubota, you couldn't be more wrong. I doubt there are many who will sing the praises of Kubota louder than me.

I could probably list hundreds of examples of neglect regardless of brand. It has nothing to do with the durability of any tractor, only with the fact that machines will be good to you as long as you at least try to maintain them. I'm not sure how you could not take my example as an extreme case like everybody else here seems to have.

are you 40 or over in age? just check/change fluid levels (tractor) w/ your yearly med annual and both of you should graciously age together. :dance1:

I always use as a rule of thumb 5,000 hours for serviced diesel engines...
My dad sold Allis Chalmers back in the day...
It was not unheard of rebuilds in the 8,000 to 10,000 hour range...
Different era when tractors typically tallied 500 to 1000 hours per year...
Most folk with compacts put no more than 50 to 100 hours per year...
I put 1250 hours on a Yanmar and it was as good as new when I sold it...
Change the oil regularly and keep the air filter serviced and the tractor will outlive you...

I know Kubota makes good products, I have a L3010 and its a great machine, just haven't had any experience with the BX's. I also understand that there is always an exception. And yea I'm way past 40...and due for my yearly wellness checkup...better change that oil when I get it right....lol.

First, I'm sure you know what forum trolls are which happens alot.
Second and most important to me is I honestly bow down to your broad and extensive years of experience. I don't do mechanic work, I just buy em and run/work/play with them. Have done some mechanical work but absolutely no expert and not even in the same room. The most I do mechanicaly now is service my own Kubotas.
I wasn't questioning your expertise or abilities or experience especially since I didn't know you had any. I read where you told how long lifed they can be but the no maintenance destroying one at 80 hours threw me since you did not give the reason why for those of us detailed close readers. I guess I wanted to know why an 80 hour Kubota was destroyed because of no maintenance. my uses are not anywhere extreme and I couldn't imagine it ever happening to me or most BX users.
Again, I accept you for what you saying you are whether you care or not, I still do now that you have said it.

I am certainly not a troll, lol. I try really hard not to inject fear into my posts only my experience. I also try to keep my opinions to myself unless they are pertinent. Sometimes I may post in haste and leave out information, but not to be malicious. I prefer the phone app to the online site so my haste is due more to the interface and being on the move from one job to the next.

I hope there is no animosity between us. The fact that you have owned so many different Kubotas makes your input valuable to me too.

No you are certainly not a troll. All of the postings I've read from you are accurate and very informed...You admission of putting gas in your diesel truck without blaming anyone but yourself shows that..... You have no reason to defend yourself.

VERY glad to have someone with that much experience here to help us - I monkey with them and have some knowledge but maybe 1/100th of yours if I am lucky. I have seen a lot of your posts and read them as helpful insight.

Looks like my BX will out last me:laughing: I have a 2200 with about 675 hours I purchased new in 2002, at about 62 hours a year of use and expected life of 6000 hours on the engine, that is 96 years of service! Got to love it:drink:
