Avoid Tier IV if you can. You had me scared at first thinking the 3120 was the Mannheim Germany six cylinder of late 60's and early 70's vintage . They never really got the bugs worked out of those tractors transmissions and transmission hydraulics until the 50 series.

For some strange reason, the JD 3120 compact tractor was very quickly replaced by the
3320 as the lowest hp member of the 3x20 series. The 3320 replaced the 4300. I think
the 3120 was sold for only a year or 2.

All really comes down on how you plan to pay for it.

If you have to finance. The Kioti is a way better deal at 0%. Here's some quick numbers.

JD 100% financed at 5.5% would be about 282.00 a month for 60 months. If you just make monthly payments without early payoff total price comes out to 16,920.00

Kioti fully financed at 0% comes to 346.00 month total cost 20,800.00

For 4 grand more your getting a tractor with warranty and 5 more hp it becomes a lot more appealing.

On the other hand if you can put 8-9 grand down and payoff the tractor in a year or two than I would say go for the the JD just for the simple fact that 60 months is a long time and typically another large ticket item such as a vehicle may need to be replace in that span.

:welcome: To TBN. No experience with either machine, but $6200 is a lot of dough to me and goes a long way toward repairs if needed on the JD. How do the tires look? Tires are high as _ell.
What he wrote.

OP - what are your wrenching skills? How much are you going to use it? How important are $$$ to you? What do you have for implements?

I've got two tractors bought used and consider them essential to what I want to do but put less than 100 hours a year on either.
I set aside a budget for tractors and most of that is going towards implements.

Just to suggest the decision is merely a financial one would not be logical to me.

As examples:

1. The used unit . . . because it says JD doesn't mean parts are readily available. How many years was it in production is an issue.

2. Break in. Tp some like myself . . . its s big deal because "break in" can determine the performance of a unit and its efficiency and early wear and tear.

3. Comfort and sizing. If it isn't comfortable and in a size and features you really like . . keep looking.

4. Others have mentioned financing issues and that is true . . . but also what perks does the manufacturer offet on a new unit. Here's an example. I got 5 full years of damage insurance for less than $300.00. It covers all the things homeowners won't like floods, hail, tip over, tornadoes etc.. I don't know what a kioti even looks like . . . but new equipment may have side benefits you aren't thinking of.

5. Another financing issue . . Some manufacturers let you add in other implements with the cheap financing . . which can further change the intrrest cost spreads on a new unit vs. used.

If paying cash, I'd make a lower offer on the used tractor. The dealer came down about 20% when I paid cash for my used tractor. It's still worth almost as much as I paid for it 12 years ago.

I've had no problems with used tractors, unlike my better-off neighbor who just bought an expensive brand new Deere 5055... but that's not what I want to mention: not being a Deere guy, I may be mis-remembering, but I think I would be sure that the machine you are considering isn't one with the aluminum rear end, or plastic fenders. The smallish Deere's have been called out for that stuff here on TbN. Good luck, in either choice.

yessir, that one has aluminum rear axle housings and gearbox. The plastic rear fenders are thick, but the hood
and front panels are thin green resin plastic and $$$ to replace. It is not just the smaller Deeres.
