I'm thinking about buying a 1972 Farmall in Cananda and bringing it back to NY. Does anyone have experience with customs requirements?

Last summer I bought a Farmall in MI and a plow in Ontario and pulled them both home through the buffalo crossing. I showed a bill of sale for each and said yes they are for my use and not resale. And bingo no taxes no hassles. I would buy more stuff in Canada if the exchange rate was right, especially since the smaller equipment I need in NH is cheaper out there.

Where is Cananda? Is it next to the Unified States-- North of Nouveau Yechh?:p:p.
If you mean Canada should be no problem going either way as long as you don't have firearms, tasers, pepper spray alchohol or tobacco in the vehicle when you cross:rolleyes::rolleyes:

first I've heard of people buying things in Canada because they are cheaper! Usually the questions here go the other way.

Like everything else in life, timing is everything:p. Last weekend at an auction I watched a Ford 8n, all working with original paint, good rubber and original owners manual go for about $1500 U.S. -- you would have paid GST but could have filed to get it back. There was another post on here about a $40 cdn corn planter bought by a transborder shopper. Fill up before you come (our gas is cheaper in the US --go figure)and make sure you have your passport (your government not ours).

Also make an effort to clean ALL soil off the machinery. Won't happen every time, but once in a while, the guys at the border get picky about soil born "nasties" that are not to cross the border in either direction.

yes, the passport thing is really stupid. Though canadian immigration/customs is actually one of the biggest pains I've ever dealt with - they seem determined to be a pain to get back at the US govt. I had nothing to do with it, I'm just going to visit friends!

Nah -- they take turns being a PITA with the U.S. border folks -- do it often enough and you will find yourself abused by both sides-- try transiting through Miami from South America and not speaking Spanish if you really want a painful experience:eek::eek:

oh, I believe US is a PITA to everyone else, but never had a problem with them with an american passport. I think they save up the **** for people who can't argue back.

I've not had a problem in Miami, but I grew up there and speak spanish, so that helps! ;)
