Grading Buying Box Blade

O.K. I posted on the attachment site about BB, now I'm confussed, I have a Kioti LB1914, 21 H.P., turf tires, 4' front bucket, will I be able to move/grade soil with a 5' box blade or will I be working the tractor to hard?

My CK20HST does pretty well with a 5' BB. It will stop the tractor if it's set to dig too deep, but half a box full is OK. I have some pretty rocky soil here in Cuba, NY - if I had a 4' BB, it wouldn't cover the tire tracks. The BB without the scarifier teeth makes a great rear blade although you can't change the angle.

IMHO, a 5' is what you need as long as you don't expect too much!

For general straightening up, gravel driveway maintenance a things of that nature a 5' is good.
If you want to do major renovating, digging, cutting in a driveway things of that nature a 4' would be better.

We sold a 5' HD Box Blade to a customer with a DK35....
He built a pond with his.
If he had been doing lighter stuff as stated in my first scenario we would have recommended a 6' Box Blade.

I would imagine it would depend a bit on the texture of the soil you plan to work. I've got hard packed, clumpy clay. I couln't use anything bigger than a four footer. Another consideration; would you ever need to tractor to pass through an opening no wider than the tractor itself? If the blade is wider than the tractor, that wouldn't work. There have been times though when I'm leveling loose soil that a wider blade would be nice. How about a convertilbe blade?

I guess that makes things about as clear as mud.
