Hello All... Need some advice.
I am a pretty sizeable tractor lover.. been in love with them my whole life. Have had two now... first a '52 Ford 8n... and now a 1971 Massey Ferguson 40 Industrial. The massey was a disaster when I bought it, still looks horrid- needs a painting really bad, however it runs perfect. Rebuilt the engine, brakes and countless other things. Some big things are still bad, and the loader is totally hammered to death. I want to upgrade again. I really want 4wd, as the Massey is clearly 2wd and therefore about worthless in the woods. ( I mostly use the tractor for gathering firewood (hauling tree length trees) then moving cut wood, Landscaping in the summer, road maintenance, I have a micro small business bushhogging some friends fields, and moving snow in the winter.
I am currently looking at a 1994 John Deere 5200, 4100 hours MFWD (turf tires so I need to swap them for some R1 or R4's) previously owned by a golf course. Allegedly they take really good care of their stuff. It has the 9X3 synchro tranny. I am having a great repoir with the guy selling it, and quite honestly would really like to shake the guys hand.
On the other hand... a really late model Massey Ferguson 2615. Power Shuttle tranny (I really like that).. I guess really thats the best part. That and the fact that its super new and would likely last years and years.
The other aspect... Although I am really not happy about alot that our government is doing, I do love the USA. The deere was made in the USA... the Massey (like the new deeres of the same size) made in India. While I have no problem with India.. I seem to really want the US made machine more..... but I really want that power shuttle!
The big problem: Can I really justify the new Massey simply cause I want it? Any advice would be great.
Probably the quality-control of the massey from india is better than the Deere from the States... probably the sad part.
Thanks in advance.
