I've had 3 inquires from people that bought a tractor from a dealer in Ohio. He is advertising "Yanmars" in a car trader magazine. He tells people they are new. He's selling Shibaura tractors with Yanmar decals on them, overstating the hp & understating the age. Beware.

Len, if you have further info it would have been good to post it. Otherwise this post casts a pallor over any dealer in Ohio advertising in the Heavy Equipment Trader, which is where Grey advertises (and I don't remember if they spell it "Grey" or "Gray"). Out of Georgetown, OH. Repainted/re-decaled Hinomotos sold as new MF compacts too. 2001 Yanmars (he has a special arrangement with the factory and gets "dented seconds" from them---so the line goes) The only limit to the outrage is the buyer's ignorance.
I have talked to at least two folks who bought there after talking to me anyway...it's the same old thing. If the price is attractive, all some folks want is to be stroked. Give them a line they THINK they can hold on to, and they'll buy. One of them then came crying here for help fixing a junkyard tractor --which we want no part of. And ended up angry with US for not wanting to take on their project tractor, more so than being angry with the seller for screwing them to the wall.

Anyway, it is not LMTC, though we do advertise in that publication. He is 40 miles from us, and our reduction in retail sales this year shows how successful that deceptive advertising can be. His prices aren't even a lot better, but it's that late/current model line of crap that's being most effective. I will tell prospects very clearly....EVERY (pick your model) was made in (pick your 2-3 year window). But they still want to believe the guy has a "special arrangment" and gets 2001 YM2000s.

When I posted my message I was concerned about hurting legitimate dealers, but felt the world needed to know what was going on. Everyone that has contacted me , I've told to contact the Attorney Generals office & BBB. I did have a dealer in Michigan tell me the name ,but I didn't remember it until you mentioned it. LMTC is a good , legitament dealership. Grey's is the one to stay away from. These guys need to be put out of business for the tactics they are using. The problem is too many people don't do any research before buying.

Boy, I know I've complained about the things we see out here in the West with dealers, but nothing so blatant as this, at least not since that dealer here in idaho got stung. Hope nobody beats you guys up for pointing out the obvious too [you out there Norm? ;^)]. Anyone that would buy without doing their research deserves what they get. I know that LMTC, Len and Pepper have very good reputations back east, if I were there I would stick with them!

Still here, and other than to say, "we're talking apples and oranges here, '"No comment".

I have seen the ads too. I shake my head at this. I import and sell/service Yanmars in Ohio and that is pretty low to pass them off as new. I thought some of the tractors looked strange(because they werent even Yanmars, but had some cheesy-looking decals on them).

Despite my disdain for such tactics, I still maintain that it's a buyer's responsibility to exercise some brain muscles. We still have people who talk with us and then go there and buy. They WANT to believe they are getting a new tractor. In a sense what this guy is doing is feeding someone's greed fantasy.

If a person has two diametrically opposed sources of information (as in us and them) seems to me they should look for some corroborating info to support one source or the other. He is doing so well that he has been able to raise his prices. He is now higher than we are on most tractors (he was just a touch under us). It's almost funny....the most serious competition we have ever had is coming from someone who blatantly misrepresents his equipment, and who has low quality units; no books or parts, and no follow-up. Essentially the anti-LMTC. As always, the buyer decides....and this summer the buyers here have decided they prefer the deception.
