I'm looking at a new "lot rat" tractor that the dealer has had since 2009. How concerned should I be with the condition? I noticed that the hydraulic connectors are corroded and there is a lot of rust on the bottom. The seat bellows is even cracked and the oil dipstick's have been discolored from the sun. He is giving me a "good deal" though and says it will come with the full factory warranty.

After I buy it, could they replace some of the "damaged" items under warranty? This could be a win/win.

I would not consider a rat
Not uncommon for stuff to take a while to sell
If reputable dealer and factory warranty I'd not worry

I would not plan on getting ware items replaced for free it's not a craftsman hand tool

I bet he is discounting it enough to NOT have to replace those weathered parts. If he brought everything up to specs, he probably would be at new pricing? However, if you buy it, it would not hurt to try to get what you can. Ken Sweet

Well,it would be nice if he drained all the fluids in it including fuel and new filter,,and put new in,and pumped plenty of grease in all the fittings, just depends on how good a deal he's really giving you I guess.

Once you've written the check your bargaining power is over.

To me it would seem odd that these items would be like that after only 1 year or at most a 1.5 years of sitting out. How much is he taking off what would be his normal new price? If I am buying new, I would want to buy one that looks new.

It makes a big difference on WHERE the tractor has spent it's time.
We just got a transfer from a dealer way out west.
We know the machine was on their lot over a year. You can hardly tell.
But where it came from doesn't have snow, very little humidity etc.
At the same time I've picked up new machines from areas where there is a good bit of snow fall etc and they look much worse.

It depends on what is wrong as to what can be covered under warranty.
It never hurts to ask the dealer what he can or will replace under warranty.
I wouldn't worry about fluids, unless it has a bunch of hours on it.

I would worry about fluids setting in a tractor out in the rain/snow/etc,for 1-2 years, probably no big concern, but on a new tractor,I would want new fluids, but thats just me:D

The deal's over by then. I wouldn't expect to get anything more after the money's been paid, or you've signed on the line.
