Purchasing soon
Hi everyone...was choosing between the JD 3039R and the kubota L3901. Will soon have 10acres in south Florida so flat land. Will use the bushhog mostly and the bucket for moving dirt and rocks. Sure we'll find plenty more uses for it.

Price not being a factor a reason not to go with the JD 3039R?
Any must have options when ordering?

Thanks.

Just keep in mind that the 3901 is an economy tractor, sort of like the JD 3038e but the Kubota would be the better of those 2 IMO.

The 3039R is a deluxe machine as would be a Kubota L4060. Being in Florida, a cab would be a must have for me, so only the deluxe models fill that need.

I'm sure others will chime in and give other things to consider.

Good luck with your decision.

I just took delivery of a 3039R. I also looked at the L3901 and couldn't do it. I'm extremely happy with the 3039R.

I went into it planning to buy only a bucket for the FEL and a posthole digger to add to what I already have. I then decided to add a grapple. It is, by far, the most useful tool I can imagine. I have converted and old 3-pt carryall into a 1000# ballast box, and that is essential with the FEL and especially the grapple on the front. I chose the H165 loader over the H160. I'm using all of its capability.

My land is flat too but still need that ballast.

For brush hogging in Florida with plenty of fast growth and plenty of heat and humidity I would get a cab. When buying new I would also recommend getting all the hydraulic options and telescopic lower links too. The H165 fel is the better choice with more lift capacity and an 12" increase in height. I would consider the 3039R and 3046R both with cabs.

We are looking at a similar, but slightly larger 40 series from JD. Maybe we're not really looking anymore, but saving up the $$$ for it. We have a good Deere dealer near us and like to use them. If they sold Kubota, we'd then need to consider that brand. We'll only consider the better equipped R series.

So that's 2 recommendations for a cab tractor. Talking to the dealer he said in south Florida he rarely gets asked for a cab. Having never owned one we originally thought it would be nice with the heat and humidity. But thought for the amount of use maybe it's not necessary.

Thanks for the replies. This place is really helpful.

Cabs are just more comfortable to me. I can work all day without being covered in dust and clippings. Not be concerned about running over a yellow jacket nest. Keeps the operator station clean and dry. I could go on.

Most of us never buy a vehicle without a roof and windows and do not consider them to be a luxury item. I look at tractors the same way.

I'm curious why the dealer said he rarely gets asked for a cab? Why would it be that his customers don't want cabs?? My "Missouri" assumption would be that it's hot and very humid there?

As to the R series, I'd much prefer that over a much cheaper E series or the L3901 Kubota. Assuming money isn't an issue of course.

Cabs seem mighty expensive and most compact tractor drivers aren't on them all that long. Not to mention cabs in the timber where many of us go, aren't a great idea either. I can't imagine shelling out the dough for a cab.

Kudos to Deer for publishing real and useful loader Specs.

The Deere 3039R is almost twice as nice as the cheapo 3038E.

What is the typical price difference between a L3901 and a 3039R? Are you talking Grand L territory?
