Buy a salvage tractor vs just buying parts

Probably depends on the price of the parts. Can you get salvage yard parts?

I had an old IH2500b tractor loader. I wanted to get it in running condition before I sold it. We have a very good IH salvage yard nearby. I needed about $1500 in parts to get it to be a $3000 running machine. The salvage yard guy said why don't you NOT buy $1500 in parts and sell HIM the machine for $1500? Hmmm. Makes perfect sense. SOLD!

So look for a salvage yard if you can. If not local, most ship nationally.

I don't know if I'd get an entire machine just for the parts unless it's at a really good price.

Well, with the backhoe, the 790 is worth 12,000 to 15,000. I just saw one over 20 years old for 22,000 with low hours , so they sell...

I have several parts machines parked up under a hedge row or in some cases stored in sheds bought or often acquired for free for one major part but I find the real value in all the little bits an pieces, fittings, bolts etc often interchangeable with other brands grab an alternator and fuel pump and a few pipe fittings and I have covered my cost
I don't plan on ever selling this place but when I die someone is going to have one hell of a mess to clean up around here

Always seems the part/parts needed most either no longer or little life left,instead dealer check for after market.
