No, it's limited to 250 amps on 240V. But it's 100% duty cycle.

Double bevel is easiest. Weld a couple passes on one side and then grind out the other side into your clean weld metal. Alternate sides and check for warping. If it pulls too much one way, move the other side. A little preheat wouldn't hurt but 1/8" and 5/32" 7018 would be a good choice. 3/32" doesn't put a lot of heat into a thick plate like that and without preheat could cause a quenching effect.

Turned out well. The angle iron ended up being 3/4" not 1" but still thick enough to need the bevels.

Thanks! You were right on the weld volume. Took forever to fill the gap. Took me most the day to make two of these things. Double bevel would have been faster but I was kind of worried about making the cut wrong. Single bevel was easy to cut.

Actually the welding wanted to pull it apart. When I first tacked it it ended up being pushed in a little too close so I used the scissor jack to make it wider.

I would have toed in the two legs at least 3/4-inch, and peened the welds.
