The problem is that the stump jumper moves when you hit the bolt so no force goes into the bolt.
so, support the stump jumper (jack, 4x4, something) so it can't move
Then get a pipe about the same size from the top and wail the living ***** out of it with a sledge hammer
They do come out.

Most people take off the stump jumper to remove the blades bolts. Ken Sweet

Thought I would tag to this thread. I think I have a Bushhog 286 as well. I finally got the blades off... 3/4 drive impact no go, 3/4Drive 4'Cheater, No go, then smoke wrench. (heated up the Nuts then 4' cheater) success!!.... Thanks to all the suggestions on this board...I was just about ready to load it up and take it to the Dealer..
Attached is a photo of the blades...My next question is, What are the guidelines to determine when blades should be replaced? I have sharpened the blades on the bushhog twice now, that I know of,,,They could have been sharpened previously, as they were the blades on the bushhog when I got it... about 5 yrs ago.

Congrats on getting them off. When blades get to looking like the ones in the picture (with badly rounded corners), then it is time to replace. Ken Sweet
