Ok, I have a new story to add to the collection. I have a feeling the hornets read this thread, and thought I was getting just a little too sure of myself . I have an old bass boat out in my drive that I keep tarped ( I am garage poor). It has a regular tarp, but I usually buy a 10X20 plastic tarp to cover the real tarp. Usually put 2 on a year...UV exposure will rot them in about 6 mo. Anyhow, I was starting to put on a new plastic tarp this evening and was walking around the boat tugging on the tarp when I got stung. I took off toward the garage and managed to make it into the kitchen. I was digging through our cabinet for some benadryl or anti histimine, when I felt something, and got stung again. Guess I dragged one in on my clothing. It turned out to be a hornet. After about a 20 minute battle with fly swatter taped on a pole, and swinging wildly and cursing like a mad man, I managed to somehow subdue the critter. My 19 yr old son just sat there and got entertained by the sight of me running around beating the crap out of walls , ceiling, or whatever got in my way. Anyhow, by that time it was getting dark outside, so I grabbed a flashlight and headed for my boat. What I found was a HUGE hornets nest built right on the back left side of my boat. (tells you that I haven't had the boat out in quite awhile...guess that is what happens when a new tractor takes all your attention). Anyhow, we had a big can of foamy hornet spray, and I loaded up the entrance hole. I could hear them buzzing in the nest like crazy, but none came out of the entrance thru all that foam. I will go out and hit it again in a few minutes. Anyhow, here I sit with a slightly swollen stomach....(of course my wife would say they had a big target). I may see if my flash works well enough to take a picture in the dark. When I look at the nest , I am thinking it could have been a lot worse. Luckily , I have never had an allergic reaction. I am familiar with what can happen though, having seen my dad hanging off the side of his tractor after bush hogging yellow jackets and then was going into shock. We managed to get him down, and call the neighbors who are EMTs. That was 18 yrs ago. I believe they saved his life. Anyhow, I will see if I can manage a picture. Stay tuned.
