Yes, can someone tell me what I need to do. I got a 870 John Deere tractor with a loader bucket on it what I would like to do is mount a mower on the front of it. How would I go about the hydraulic for it I have a set of hoses for my back hoe attactment. If anybody can tell me or draw me a plan to do it. I know how to work on equipment so that won't be a problem with any help I will be Thankful.

You need a good flow, and you can get that from the BH QD.

You will have to convert the front mower by adding hyd motor to the gear box, or driving the bush hog direct.

A hose from the bush hog motor OUT port will connect to a tank connection.

Would recommend a relief valve across the bush hog hyd motor.

You need a motor spool valve with detent for the bush hog, or a valve like this.

Surplus Center - 3/8 NPT HYD FLOW CONTROL VALVE W/RELIEF RDRS137-08

This valve will operate the hyd motor from 0 to max rpm and has a relief.

Yes sir thanks for the reply back. I would like to know when you say from the BH QD. What do you mean when you said that and also driving the bush hog direct. I know I sound stupid by asking you this.

He means you'll have to add an aftermarket hydraulic motor to a rotary cutter unless it already has one. Or else you will have to figure out a path for a drive shaft from the rear PTo to your front mount mower. It can be done with snowblowers, but a mower will be more of a challenge

If your 870 has the mid mount PTO kit, then you could run a shaft ala snow blower drive out to a front mower. If you want a finish type mower, a mid mounted mower runs really nice off of a loader frame if you watch the driveshaft angles. All you need are loader bucket clamps. I used this setup for a while with a 72" MMM heavily offset to the left to cut under pine trees on my 1070, then dragged an 84" rear mower off the rear pto heavily offset to the right. Now that the pines are big and wide, don't need this complicated setup any more. Getting the two mowers at the same cutting height was a chore. Otherwise you get a discontinuity.
