Bush Hog Brand

TBN Gang,
I know there has been plenty of posts on Rotary Cutters. I am within just a few days of new Tractor purchase. The dealer only carries the Bush Hog Brand RC. Its about $1500.00.For a 72" Squeeler. Are these RC's worth the price? Especially if TSC has changed there supplier to something less than the KK.
Just looking for some opinions on RC's in general.
Best Brand for the money....

If you aren't going to buy a Rhino mower, then a Bush Hog is a good alternative.

If you are buying a new tractor from the guy you would think he could sweeten the deal a little on the implements. Has the BH brand got a slip clutch or shear pin? Is it a light, medium, or heavy duty? Those would make a difference as well. I would think that is list price for a squealer, not a deal but I may be wrong, steel has gone up. I have an International Brand and although the finish isn't the best it is pretty tough the way it deals with rocks and stumps I don't see.

I live in northeast Florida and I was quoted less than $1,800. for the Bush Hog 286 and it comes with a slip clutch.
How does that compare to your dealer?

Light duty mowers don't have enough difference between brands to make a lot of difference, so long as they have all the features you're looking for. (i.e. slip clutch, ect) When you get to medium duty, there starts to be a definate difference, with Bush Hog being one of the front runners. Heavy duty sort of seperates the men from the boys. Bush Hog, Rhino, and Woods hold a popular advantage in the heavy duty class. There is a class of mowers that I guess would be considered SUPER heavy duty. Just a few brands in that catagory. Batwing mowers are in a class all their own, with a handfull of manufacturers building them. For the size and duty rating you're looking at, Bush Hog is as good as it gets. (That's NOT saying there aren't others as good, because there are several equals)

I've got a Bush Hog 286. It cuts good, has very little if any noticable vibration, with fit and finish that's second to none. Bush Hog has been the industry leader since they introduced their first brush cutter nearly 60 years ago. You can't go wrong with their product.

If you compare Bush Hog to KK, I believe that you will find that Bush Hog's gear box is a higher HP that KK. I have a BH SQ600 and think that it is built better that KK, especially when you look at the welding and finish. However, I know that others will disagree. I have never heard anyone with real complaints against any of the major brands. Squealers are Bush Hog's light duty cutters.

I just bought a new SQ720 with slip clutch, front and rear guards, delivered to my farm about 12 miles from the dealer's location for $1295 (plus sales tax.) I have used it to cut about 15 acres and am very pleased. It sounds like your dealer's price is a little steep.

go with the bushhog brand,they aren't all called that when referring to rotary cutter's for nothing.by the way why is it called bushhog down south and called brushhog north of the mason dixon line?i just bought a bushhog 296,the replacement for the 286, and couldn't be happier.besides the bushhog people are excellent to work with,at least the ones that i have talked with.

What kind of prices are people getting on the new 296 mode? I found on here somewhere somebody paid 1720 including tax. I want one and I am just interested in what prices are out there.

mrlarryj,i didn't get that good of a deal for my 296 but fair i suppose.i paid around $2,200 for mine with front and rear chains including tax.$1,700 is almost too good to be true.i was quoted $1,700 for a new 286 but the 296 is a little more expensive and has a better backed warranty on the gear box,5 years vs 2 years on the 286.

That is what I was thinking, I was quoted 1900 for 296 and 2500 for 297.
I seen one on here for 1720 somewhere and they said it was a 296. Maybe I ws mistaken, thanks for your input.
