Hello,

I have a brand new Bush Hog Mdl 285. It does not seem to mow as well as the Woods I replaced. I bought the Bush Hog for it's high blade tip speed.

It does not leave the same finish cut while mowing grass. The Woods did a great looking job when you finished a roadway or pasture.

Question:

Is there a different type of blade that could be applied to the Bush Hog that could produce a better cut for grass? :confused2:

Maybe have to go back to the Woods.

Thanks,

If you're cutting nothing but grass you could try sharpening the blades.

The 7555 is the only blade listed for the 285, and it's an uplift blade, so that's about as good as that's going to get. Is your tailwheel adjusted to the same blade height as your Woods was?

Does the Bush Hog mower have guarding that the Woods didn't have? Some of the new rotary cutters come with so much guarding that air can't circulate underneath. Even chain guards will make a mower lose the quality of cut if the chains get so gunked up that air can't circulate.

I just found out yesterday that with my 285 you have to cut going clockwise. The blades on mine spin counter clockwise. Mine wasn't cutting good at all til i figured this out. Try it and you'll see a night and day difference. I love my 285 now.
