The new lower housing comes with races and I am replacing the bearings.

I used an angle-grinder with a cut-off wheel to chop the castle nut off.But he is also right in rebuilding these gear boxes. I have heard of some guys not even getting a single mowing done without breaking the Chinese tin gearboxes of newer mowers.

I replaced the gear box in a formally owned 2572 Land Pride with a factory replacement and never looked back. The unit had some seriously hard hours on it and I felt it was the best option.
Friend’s son has it now. I don’t think he will be wearing it out in his lifetime.
