My goal was for my acre up on the hill where my container cabin and where we do most of our hanging out to be BURR FREE this fall. Well guess what I failed!! I hate looking down at my legs to have 20,000 burrs all over my legs. Infuriating! Does anyone have any burr removal techniques that work well? I did just see a thing called the Burrpaw.com that looks promising but there has to be something free out there that works as well. Anyone?

There are many type of burrs and control methods vary so maybe you should be more specific on what you are calling burrs. What I know is Goatheads (aka stickers, sticker weed, bullhead, devil's weed and puncturevine) or Sandburs (aka grassbur) would stop you in your tracks long before you had 20k on you. As many as you are talking about sound's like what we call Begger Lice Seed that don't actually have painful spines.

You are correct there are lots of types. The ones i have are almost like small flat triangles, no real spines to speak of. I quickly looked for an example on Google but couldn't find it. Or these really small balls with little spines. I guess the good things about burrs is if you are consistent you should have less every year as you are disrupting the lifecycle by not letting them go to seed.

Couldn't see your link. But this is what I am dealing with. Mostly.

Guess I haven't been the Lice for awhile, but seems like I just used a wire brush to knock them off my pant legs.

Cheers,

Lol. Best thing I have found is to wear denim pants, and a smooth coat. My son loves to tromp through the weeds in his sweatpants.... basically ruins the pants. Until someone is willing to sit there and pick them for 20 minutes, anyway.

Those little corn chip shaped ones aren't too bad. Its the oval/round burrs that REALLY velcro your clothes together, oof.

I fixed the link, try it again so that you can compare the leaves and growth pattern and make sure before buying herbicides. It's one of the most resistant to broadleaf killers I've seen so you'll have to make your best efforts using best methods to win the battle.

I wouldn't be suprised to find out it inspired the invention of Velcro. 😜

Carhart's - bibs or regular jeans type. Duluth Trading Firehose pants/bibs - canvas type material. The smooth - hard surface resists burrs. They brush off a lot easier also.

These things stick to just about any pants I have worn. This weekend I used a comb to try and remove them. Worked OK but not perfect.

Dogs are great Beggar Lice finders. My pet-barber wife reminds me of that every time the pooch gets out!

I have a doodle that a big fluffy dog. He’s constantly covered in them unless I keep him shaved pretty short.

The VELCRO® brand of hook and loop was invented by a man named George de Mestral in the 1940's while hunting in the Jura mountains in Switzerland. Mr. de Mestral, a Swiss engineer, realized that the tiny hooks of the cockle-burs were stuck on his pants and in his dog's fur and wondered how they attached themselves.
