He was about 15 and had been going downhill pretty fast the past year. Probably 80 - 90 lb instead of his former 100+. The wife was really down after finding him gone this AM. He had apparently died in his sleep laying in his favorite spot under the shed on the hill. She was already distraught from our previous day trip to WV to deal with a break in at the house there (they cut plumbing from pressure body & softner for copper, letting water soak furnace room floor, cut most all wiring from breaker box and stole heat pump from outside).

She was really upset about how to care for the dog as I am on light duty (no lifting over 5 lb. no bending twisting or tractor use) for the next few months following lumbar surgery and nobody would be available to help for quite a while. I convinced her we could handle things between the two of us. I talked her through her first use of the 1025R house tractor, she took care of the driving & I ran the loader joystick from the ground til we could get him loaded and ready to transport. She drove him to a good resting place & I carefully ran the BH from the ground by the left rear to excavate his spot. With him safely laid to rest I think it really took a load off her mind. She's a good woman.

So sorry about the loss of your dog. You become very attached thru the years and they are now in a better place. They are truly your friend and companion for life. God bless

I want to echo what everyone else is saying about your loss. I have had to do basically the same thing with a few dogs/friends and it never gets easier but the pain does go away with time. May you in time have another furry friend come into ya'lls life. May God bless you and take some of your pain away.
Great now I am tearing up thinking of my past furry friends. However they are happy memories.

My sincere condolences for your loss. They rip out a big old chunk of our hearts when they leave us, don't they?

We lost our Rocky Dog one year ago. I am finally down to crying only once or twice a day. We are blessed to have such great companions. Sorry for your loss.

Clint, sorry to hear of your loss too. I hope it helps knowing we 'get it' and understand how it feels.

A good woman, good man, and good dog. Each so deserving of the obvious love you shared among yourselves. I am sorry for your loss.

Thank you for taking the time and making such an effort to give your friend a proper burial.

Sorry for the loss. Our 13 yr old Cocker lost most of his sight and hearing about a year ago (typical for the breed I guess). Sad to see him relying on his nose to get around the house and yard (he's like a pinball machine) and he is now content to sleep most of the time. Won't be long for him I don't think. I would give him the "sleep shot" simply because he can't be enjoying life now. But the wife says no.

It always hurts losing a good dog. Time is the only thing that will make it better.

I got a shock when I saw the title to this thread. We had a Blinddog too, but he was a Dashshund. I never knew how old he was, he was already blind when someone put him inside our 5' dog fence. He quickly learned where everything was in the yard, deck and back porch, and he went full speed everywhere he went. If you left anything out of it's place, he would run into it. We had him for a few years, but he's been gone three years now. We had a new puppy dumped on us last week. We are trying to find her a home, but her and Mocha, our chocolate lab are already fast friends. So we may have another dog. If we keep her, I think her name will be Trouble.
