Only a dog lover can understand the real grief you go through when you lose a long time canine companion. We got two poodle/cockerspaniel mixed puppies 12 years ago and they have been a part of our family ever since. Named Buddy and Max, they were different as night and day even though they were litter mates and have never been separated from each other since they day they were born. Buddy was always rambunctious and devil may care. Max was the serious one, always careful and cautious and extremely loving. Both have licked our wounds and eased our hurt when my wife and I both lost parents. Both of them gave us unconditional love whether we deserved it or not. We buried Max today under his favorite crepe myrtle tree in the back yard. As I type this, Buddy is in my lap trying to tell me in his own way that everything will be ok. RIP Max - I'll miss you.View attachment 571044

Sorry for your loss. It's never easy saying goodbye.

I feel your pain.
My Best Friend and Constant companion died last fall. Beauregard was 14 y/o Golden Retriever and CHow mix. What a dog.

I buried him in my front yard, put up a nice cross and stailess steel inscription.
Yes, I still miss him.

The Rainbow Bridge
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry for your loss and it is hard to bury a pet. We have cats and lost our 20-1/2 year old this summer.

We were given dogs to remind us of our own mortality... and also to learn what it's like to receive unconditional love.
That's why Dog is God spelled backwards.
Thoughts and prayers going out to you.
