Bummed out...

Lifes been kicking us around the last month or so , so feeling kinda bummed out. I thought I'd turn to my nieghbors here on TBN for a pick me up... or to just vent......

Just over a month ago, my lil sisters husband was killed in a auto accident on a Wed night and his B'day was the next day, he would have been 35, just few months older than me,and on Monday before yesterday the 7th. I wound up in the emergency room... Seems I'm diabetec and found out the hard. To make matters worse our JR J.J. passed monday also, would have been 11 in July...

I'm fine now and have been diagnosed as a type 2 diabetec. Once my system stablizes I should be off the insulin and can control it like millions of other with diet, and pill.

Apperently I'm some kind of walking wonder... I had a glucose level off the charts. The nurse told me the 1st time the could read it was at 1350 ( normal folks are between 80 and 140). For some reason they are shocked I was not in a coma... I tolder her, I'm just to stubborn to do would I should, pointing to the end of the bed, I told her I get it from him, my Dad... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

on the bright side I did loose a good 25lb's I didn't need... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I told my wife, I'm the only one I know who could go to the Doc for a sinus infection and come home diabetec.... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

O well I'm back at work today. I guess I should do something.... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Keep your chin up, thing's have got to get better than what you,ve been through lately. Sorry to hear of your troubles and here's hoping for improvement very quickly.

Sorry for your losses. My Dad had polio when I was a year old. He had upper and lower. He spent eighteen months in an iron lung when he first contracted the disease. My mother literally lived her life taking care of my Dad, my sister and I. Dad could not use his hands or arms at all and could barely walk. He spent most of his time in a wheelchair. The reason that I bring all this up is that he taught us to appreciate life and what it had in store for us. He would often tell us that no matter how bad your life is, you can always look around and see that some one else is worse off than you. When he passed away three years ago, my mother had taken care of him night and day for over 50 years. Dad once told me that the only regret he had in his life was that he could not give my mother a hug. I too was diagnosed with type II diabetes about two years ago. When the doctor told me I had it, I remembered to look around like Dad said. It has helped a lot over the years. One other thing I would like to say about Dad is that I never ever heard him complain about his condition, however, he could sure complain about the weather!! Sorry to hear about your sister's husband. It it never easy.

As far as the diabetes, you can control it. You just need to take charge. I am a Type 1, I understand the problems. Feel free to PM me any time. It is not the end of the world, in fact, it can force you live a healthier life in some respects. Hang in there!!!!

Look around and see those who care about you, your wife, family, friends....

Just keep going! And try to find that each day brings something NEW and perhaps good. It is GOOD you went to the doctor, it is GOOD they found your problem. You can change your lifestyle now to be around longer. My goodness, can you not imagine what might have happened to you and your family had you NOT been diagnosed?

God takes us all when he wants to. We can't control it. It's natural to greive so your doing nothing we all don't do in that situation. I wish your family nothing but the best.
My son is diagnosed as having ADHD. He's not where he should be for his age. It's a situation where no matter how hard I try, I can't control the situation. I cry sometimes because he tries so hard to process information but his body gets in the way.
At least with the diabetes you can control the situation. In my eyes this is a much better situation to be in than not having any control. Your going to be fine. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Both my parents have diabetes.. my dad didn't know he had it until he went blind one day while driving his truck.

Sorry to hear that things are rough right now. Hang in there.

I found out I was type 2 diabetic about 2 years ago. I was constantly thirsty, pee-ed alot (which goes hand in hand with being thirsty all the time), had blurred vision on occasion and had a larger than normal sweet tooth. I think I knew I was diabetic long before I went to the doctor but being a typical man put off the doctor's visit. My first A1C test came back at 350 and within a month of diet change, moderate exercise and Glucovance twice a day my numbers average 108.

A friend at work walked into the emergancy room with blood sugars at 1250, they said they had seen higher numbers but not in anyone who actually walked in. As someone else said, it can actually be the motivation to live healthier than you used to.

So did I, gained it all back though once my body got used to not pee-ing once every hour. My doctor told me that it was "healthy weight gain" and the exercise would take care of the unhealthy weight and once again, he was right.

Follow the doctor's instructions and test your blood at least twice daily, you'll be back in control in no time.

Thanks all for the words of kindness and encouragement... Some times it just helps to hear from others not related to ya.... I'll be out of the hos[pital a week tomorrow and my mg/dl is 174 as of noon. It has been under 200 for 2 days now and I fell lots better.... Doc warned me it would take a week or so to level off and start to ease down given how high it was. It was still in the high 200's when they let me go home.

It's those swing that are killer. sunday i went from 189 down to 87 in few hrs and wow... then back up after dinner to low 200's...

I've always been one to task life in stride and do what has to be done. So far it's not been to bad. Hopefully with diet and physical activity (excersise is a dirty word in my house). I can get off the shots in a couple of months like Doc suggested should happen if I'm good...

Noooooow if the folks around here would just stay in focus when I look at them...

Paul,

The hardest part is getting started and find out what works for *** YOU ***. As a type 2 you will be able to get off the insulin, that is what is causing the swings. Not sure what they have you on, but it sounds like it might be NPH. Once you settle in it will be much easier. There are a bunch of good groups on the net. There is a real good IRC channel with a bunch of real good people. Let me know if you need / want any info.
