I'm in the process of building a middle buster and subsoiler from the parts of an old middle buster that got twisted a bit somehow. :D I would like to be able to put the plow bottom on for shallow plowing and trenching, and remove it and have a small hardened point for deeper subsoiling and possibly pulling pipe or wire. I'd appreciate any input or pictures of this type of implement to give me some ideas before I weld it up.

Thanks,
Dave

Now that is one cool dual tool there Oldmax! I have already made a 3 pt. hitch to use with my quick hitch, so I can't do the fliperoo. I'm thinking along the lines of adding shear bolt protection for the subsoiler function as well. Anybody have one with a shear bolt? If so, what size and grade bolt does it use, and how often do you break them?

I'm not too sure who owns this subsoiler but it is someone on TBN. They posted it a while back and I held onto the photo to use for ideas for my own DIY subsoiler project. It is a really good design with shear pin. Looks like a heck of a strong unit. All in all, my favourite subsoiler to date.

Might be of use to you... (if you haven't seen it already)

Thanks djw250 But mine is a toy compaired to some of them . My tractor is only a 1715 N/H - 27 HP FWD so it doesn't half to be as strong as for a bigger tractor . I just built from scraps I had on hand Cutting Tip & front of middle buster are made from Spring steel the rest is mild hot rolled . I made middle buster first then started looking for something to make top out of came up with a lay off plow for a garden tractor . With a little mod that's what I came up with also have a adpt to plow in Wire for it . It does what I made it for . Middle busters are good for busting up ground before digging a ditch sure saves a lott of work with a pick .
