Glad things are going well and I don’t blame you for unplugging from social media etc.

Speaking of unplugging, nice solar setup. What kind of batteries did you go with?

System is grid tied so no battery backup. Any overproduction is issued as a credit onto our bill at the end of each month. They installed smart meter that tracks both forward and reverse so consumption and production is totaled daily. If I'm using exactly what I'm producing then meter is static. If not then it moves forward or in reverse accordingly. If I sized the system correctly we should accrue enough credit to offset our bills in the winter when production is down.

As you can see still has a long way to go. I'm finally getting around to working around the pond again. Spent the last several days hauling logs from one of the piles around the pond and getting it split. I've also started cleaning up around the surrounding timber. Clearing out the crap trees and leaving some of the nicer oaks and mature trees. Should get sunlight to the ground so natural grasses can take root and improve runoff. Also going to try to get some clay into the bottom of the 2nd ravine that is untouched. Pretty sure this is my problem area. Will post some pics as progress is made.

Making some good progress on firewood production. I've completely cleared one of my 3 log piles and turned it into firewood. Mostly oak and a small amount of black locust. I have 8 empty totes left at the moment. As soon as I can get these finished up will turn my focus back to clearing around the pond.

Osage Orange? I assume you burn wood? That would last me several years.
Yes on Osage orange. Will propably have 3 years worth of wood. Maybe 4 if I fill the rest of my empty totes.

Wow... lots of hard work! I would sure enjoy some of that Osage for turning. Too bad I am not an easy drive from you.
