Well, here is my closet pic and I have a bit of fish eye, too. Never noticed it until now, I suppose the close ups of things that are meant to be vertical really highlight it.

Stu,
The folks are going to howl, as I'm sending back your door in the final fix at the same size you posted it.
You do have some barrel distortion up close but you should be able to fix that in the photo editor that probably came along with your camera.
You deleted the EXIF data from your post so I don't know what make or model your camera is or what focal lenght you were using?
It is good to delete that data, especially if you have GPS built in to the camera and you don't want your location pinpointed on Google maps or Earth, so I am not
complaining.
You created some other distortion by 1. holding the camera crooked ( I do the same thing if I'm not careful ) 2. Creating perspective distortion both horizontally and vertically.
To avoid this the camera needs to be in the middle of the frame and parallel to the door. You were a little high and off to one side as well as tilted. Again, you should be able to correct all this
pretty easy in your editor, but it is a lot easier to shoot it right in the first place. Up this close you should probably use a tripod so you can go out in front and look to see how the camera is tilted
in relationship to the subject. Download the attachments so you can view them full size to see the correction steps.

What I want to know from you is.... Are the inside of the closet walls lined with steel plate or can I just go to a side and kick the wall in with my boot?

Any close ups, Stu? I can't really discern anything from your first pics.

Download the last image in the series above. It is full size.

Peter, I am just noticing this. Did you get a new wide angle lens for your Rebel or are you using a different camera. I see the fish eye effect in lots of your pictures.

Don't mind me Ron, I never saw the above post (or more likely, just didn't read it closely enough). I was looking for finishing problems on Stu's doors. (fish-eye). Doh! :duh:

I also meant to reply to Stu in regards to bondo for paint-grade "fixes"...I've used quite a few cans of it over the years, it's the "bees knees" when it comes to fixing damaged wood.

One of my favorite uses is fixing any goof-ups when making fluted columns. They're fairly time-consuming, and any little goof with the router while running a "flute" down the column can be a real pain to fix.

With bondo, it's a fairly quick and painless process to fix it. Lots of other uses in woodwork too.

Yep, me too.
When I was a kid and cars loved to rust, lead filler was the way it was done. Then came bondo. For years you could fix a fender with bondo but the steel around it usually rusted in a year so it was patch, repatch, repatch. That's why so many cars had artistic paint jobs with just primer. Folks got tired of doing it over and over.
For wood it is great though if it is to be painted over. I had an outside window sill that the bees and then water damage really messed up on a former house I owned. Bondo'd it in and was as good as new.
I think we've entertained the troops enough for today. Time for a homemade doughnut and a glass of milk.
According to Stu, Peter will have a bunch of trees to go to the mill on his next post.

While I am sure that the bondo suggestion is a great solution, I am still a fan of removing the wood trim and using PVC (or Hardie) for all exterior trim. There will still be some wood exposed from the door frame, but the face trim could easily be swapped.

I won't disagree as you won't have any future rot problems. I thought the pic with the problem was a door frame issue, but I've already proven that I'm not paying close enough attention. :D

I have already given away too much information but I will say that I challenge anybody to gain entrance to that room.

Let us please turn this back into a discussion of Peter's Mom's house as opposed to my closet.
