This forum is what ever the individual member wants it to be not what someone tells them it's supposed to be. Normally it's a good thing to learn how "pro's" would do things but we can't have that on this forum because it is a "hobby" forum. When Shield Arc posts pics of his projects you can instantly see he is a true craftsman who takes great pride in his work. When he posts people read it because they know they will learn something. When Sodo posts pics of his projects you can instantly see the difference in workmanship. When questioned about it, out come the excuses. Who would you rather learn from? I've fabricated and repaired lots of things... just haven't posted them. If that gives me less credibility I think I've done a tremendous job fooling people.
Arc that's crazy talk. My ripper is a FINE ripper.
Wait 'til its orange!
I'm certain Shield arc does nice work. Arc, I don't get the impression you do projects or "Build-it-yourself". Certainly you've welded for others. Might just stick to the welding, not attempt advice on other aspects of the project. Members often need many other skills to get a project done. But certainly they'd like to get the welding done well.
Here you go again deciding what members want. Who died? I think the members are smart enough to decide which advice they want to take or not take. Either way it's their choice not yours. I offer advice on how to do things and improve your skills. You like to boast about your projects but in actuality very few of them haven't needed extra pieces or "doublers" added after the fact because you were more concerned with posting pictures than taking a little more time to do it right. "Doublers" is just a fancy way of saying you didn't build it good enough the first time. Paint isn't going to change that. You have a good enough type attitude and I have do it the best of your ability type attitude. Members can decide for themselves which way they want to go.
I used the claw a little and it rules. Much easier to dig in rocky soil after ripping the ground up. Decided to do a little more welding and then paint it. See if it can look almost as good as Pat's stuff.
Used the dirty-finglers template method.
Here it is before the acid bath.
During the bath.
After the bath. It comes out of the acid shiny but quickly develops a slight rust discoloration. The surface it etched (rough) and I hope it holds the paint.
Hah, I had to patch in that little "lower scoop" piece when I built mine. You don't think you need it, but then you find out you do. I gotta consider doing the bolt-on-ears for my next attachment, worried if I ever upgrade from the KX41 I'll be doing a lot of re-welding of ears.
