Here is the buggy top on my 66 cub. Sorry so dark, but just finished.

The brackets I made are 2" x 1/4 flat stock, drilled to accept the right alnle brackets and clamps that came with the buggy top. The flat brackets attatch to the bracings under the seat. and were attatched with u-bolts. I didn't have to drill or weld anything onto the tractor, as I'm trying to keep it more or less intact, as the sheet metal is about 99% oem.

Comments welcome.

That's a fine looking machine, Chris. I spent a lot of time under an umbrella like that on a much bigger tractor cutting and baling hay.

I would love to put one of those on each of my tractors. I've been toying with the idea of building a buggy shade that folds up next to the ROPS with the ROPS unit itself acting as the back hoop of the shade's frame.

You did a heck of job, I might be inspired to go to work on mine!?!

Soundguy,

Nice job and beautiful tractor!

How about a couple more pictures sometime when you get a chance?

Have you posted some here before? I want to think I remember seeing some of one of your tractors...perhaps this one before you made it so pretty???

Thanks for the kind words guys!

Spencer: Thanks for the gama correction

Henro: I'll post some more pics, perhaps wednesday afternoon. I work tonight, but will be off work tomorrow early, and should get some camera time.

If it wouldn't have been so late last night, i would have pulled the tractor into the riding areena and turned on the areena lights and got some better pics.. But at that point I still had to clean the horse stalls, and the wife was tapping her foot, so I had to put the tractor up for the night.

Millsnhills: I havn't shown it -yet-.. but am tempted to take it to the North fl antique engine and tractor show this december. I joined a couple years ago, and they are a nice small group that meets twice a year around starke.

Right now, it is bein used to cut the grass on the right of wat between my property and the highway, and to take turns cutting the power co. easement between my pasture and the neighbors pasture... so deffinately light duty.

Bob: They are a great idea.. and a bit more stable than the sun-brellas. On this design, the two outer supports run thru the fabric, while the middle is 'free' underneath. Sopposedly according to paperwork, these can be made to be compatible with rops.. so you may be able to adjust enough clearance to do what you want with it. or even build a few angle supports and clamp them to your rops and make your own canvas cannopy, and save the 89 bucks.

Bird: I love those buggy tops. I tried one a few years ago when I got my first tractor, a yanmar 1700. Worked great, and kept the sun off of me. I also added one to my wifes horse drawn buggy, and now that I'm doing a little mowing with the cub, i added one to it, after mowing last weekend for a few hours and getting red.

My NH 1920 does the heavy pasture mowing... but I love these older tractors so much, I use them for the light duty pasture work.

Occasionally I us ethe NAA to boxblade the maneuer pile.. or pull a drag harrow.

The 8N is the fertalizer/seeder machine with a light 3pt broadcast spreader. The cub is the light duty mower. I especially like it as it is a hop on and go type of machine... don't have to hitch up a mower, etc. Many times I need just to knock the black tops of fthe grass in a swath from the barn to the turn out areena, as In the morning I walk one of the young horses in from the turn out to his stall... I usually do this right before leaving to work, and don't like the blacktops sticking to my legs or pants. Many times the grass just isn't high enough to justify getting the NH out, hitching the mower and mowing a few foot swath.. so the cub is great... just a 5 minute job. Same for a small 10cuft cart I have. Once a week, I load up the feed for the chickens, turkeys and pigs, and go fill the hopper feeders in there pens at the back of the pasture... sure beats wheel barrowing it 250-300# of feed down there..

The previous owners kept it garaged, so i also keep it under cover. Not completely garaged.. but closed on two sides, with a good roof, so it stays outta the rain and sun.. just some dust settles on it...

I'm lucky that this one was in soo good of condition.. took me much less time to spiffy up than either of the two ford projects did.

Thanks guys,

Soundguy

Is this from a kit or did you make it up from scratch? If you had plans, where can I order them from?

On this one, the buggy top is a kit from tractor supply co.. 89$. The buggy top kit just comes with the canvas, poles and swivel receiver. They expect you to also buy a seperate 'bracket kit' for another 29$ to attatch it to your tractor. I didn't want to drill/weld on my tractor, so I made the brackets myself, and attatched them under the seat mounts with u-bolts. There is also an umbrella kit from tsc for 79$ and it doesn't need a bracket kit... but I just didn't like the look of the umbrella.. plus it is harder to take down to park, as my shed just has clearance for the tractor and me, slightly slid down in the seat, with the buggy top folded back... the umbrella I would have to almost remove to park.. etc.

I have made something similar for an atv a while back, using electrical conduit, and a canvas top my aunt sowed up for my.

Worked great, as I had access to a conduit bender at the time. Was cheap too. Mounts wer to front of floor boards, and rear wer to supports for the fenders.. etc. Just flattened out the ends with a mallet.. and drilled them, and put the bolts thru them... worked great.

I could have done the same... but needed something I could throw together in half an hour, as I need to mow.. not build, as the wife would say.... so I just bought it... and real quick fabbed the brackets with the chop saw and drill press. and some flat stock steel I 'purged' from the scrap pile at work...

Sound Guy;
Luv the cub. I bought a 1966 low boy that came with a new L-22 sickle blade and a 6' woods underbelly mower. It is really nice, orig tin and all. It didn't have alot of power so I took the motor apart to freshen it up a bit. I noted the head gasket was nearly gone and all the rings on the pistons were lined up perfectly. Honed the cylinders, ground the valves, new bearings, rings, and gasket kit... now runs like a champ with twice the power. It has the hydraulic lift, front and rear wheel weights, and a front blade also. Like you said, it is great for trimming... but hard to get on the seat with the steering wheel in the way. The orig paint needs attn, hope it turns out as nice as yours. jr
