Looking at a used 72" fel bucket to weld some 23tf teeth on, I've found anywhere from 6 to 9 teeth on 72" buckets. Just wondering what others have on this size bucket? Also anyone tried the twin tiger tooth, I see most are using the standard digging style.

Don't know anything about the twin tiger teeth nor have I wonder welded any teeth ever on my bucket (tried out a bucket with teeth and with my soil conditions I barely noticed any gains, however backdraging is "lost", something I use my loader for very often).

But basically the less teeth the better the digging force, as the same force is spread on less surface, however, it increases the chances of breaking a tooth or bending the bucket. Also less teeth will "scoop" less. (Compare a cutting edge scooping material vs 3 teeth vs 15, the contact area allows the scooping).

If it is softer soil, the number of teeth wont change anything as the bucket drives into the pile.

I think the ideal composition would be less teeth for more digging ability, or no teeth for most scooping/better level. The "more teeth" is simply a compromise between the two..

Just depends on what you want to use the bucket for.

My tooth bar has nine teeth across my 72" bucket.

8-9 in spacing is about the norm give's you 9. The "tiger" tooth if it is what I'm thinking about is very aggressive tooth, good in shale rock and require's a good heavy machine behind it.

countrybumpkin, it's been my experience that more teeth are better, new teeth are best. here is a photo of an 84" ctl bucket I had 13 teeth added to along with an additional cutting edge for strength. The cutting edge in the photo (yellow) with 4 teeth welded to it is a bolt on smooth edge so I can use it for snow or street cleanup. I remove the corresponding teeth from their shank on the bucket, slide the smooth edge on, put in bolts. I don't have any experience with tiger teeth. I have seen them on hoe buckets where the digging was UGLY, not where I would want tires. lt190bbolt on smooth edge 006.jpg

Ok thanks everyone, 8-9 is what I'll probably go with, I haven't really decided on teeth type still, may just stay with a standard digging tooth.
