When I back drag using my bucket angled to where the edge is perpendicular to the ground, the bucket pivots forward. If I pick it up off the ground, the bucket swings back in place. It's done this as long as I've had it, and I thought that was just how it was supposed to work, but my dad said he's never seen one do that before I didn't see a missing pin or anything, but is there a way to make it stay in place when back dragging? I've learned to deal with it, but it'd be great if I could fix this.

The first problem is you’re not supposed to back drag like that. It’s a sure fire way to bend cylinders.

Yup, lots of threads here about major damage from doing that. I try not to do it with more than about a half tilt, but when possible I try to do it with the rounded heel of the bucket (front edge tilted upwards).

Yep. Don’t do that. Back drag with the bucket bottom nearly flat. Just tip forward enough so the cutting edge is touching the ground. That’s it.
It is not a construction machine. It you keep treating it as one, you will be disappointed with the results.

If you feel the need to back drag like that, its your tractor.

To answer your question, you have "floppy bucket syndrome." I suffer from it too.
Run at higher RPM, maybe install a flow restrictor. Run your bucket all the way dump until its hard over. then curl it back to where you want it. Should be more ridged that way.

Ok, so I guess I should clarify. I'm not grading large areas or anything like that when I do this. Think after dumping a load of dirt around a hole/rut/washout using the edge of the bucket to pull it in place, or scrape some dirt/mud off the edge of the driveway. I use my dad's rear blade to grade large areas. I'm definitely not interested in wrecking my tractor here.

I will sometimes use the heal of the bucket. Most often - reverse the rear blade 180 degrees and drive forward. Besides, with my very heavy rear blade it does a better job.
