I have several piles of dirt that have become overgrown with turf and small trees. Would like to level with my TC-35DA FEL. Bucket has no teeth. Thinking about shovel attachment, listed for sale in Northern Tool or getting teeth for the bucket edge. Not much experience with landscaping; use my tractor mostly for moving building materials, brush cutting, and personal logmill operation. Suggestions? Thanks in advance,Cary

Have you tried moving the dirt with your bucket? I have moved a few piles of dirt with mine but they were not grow up like yours sound to be. Maybe you could poison the growth then move the dirt after the growth is dead. How big are the piles of dirt?

If I thought I could use this "problem" as an excuse to buy some bucket teeth I would probably try to get permission from the wife.:D

Your piles of dirt surely aren't as compacted as virgin ground, even with some vegetation on them. I wouldn't bother with getting teeth for the bucket.

I would drive up onto the pile until my loader bucket was past the top of the pile, and then curl the bucket fully to the dump position and lower it down into the dirt just past the peak of the pile. Then I'd back-blade the dirt down off of the pile and spread it around. I've done this many times and it's easy.

If you try to shovel up the dirt in your loader moving forward, you'll probably have a hard time getting just the right angle on the bucket to dig into the dirt without stopping your tractor. The lip of the bucket digs in a little, your tires squash out a little and the bucket digs in even deeper and then your tires start to spin. Back-blading is much easier.

If you're spreading the dirt over a large area, a 3 point hitch blade would be helpful, but you can do it with the loader too, it just takes longer.

Carykong:

Welcome to TBN :D! I agree with cperky. This is an excellent opportunity to justify a toothbar to SWMBO . A toothbar makes digging with the FEL more efficient, but you have to backdrag with the "heel" of the bucket. If you are really lucky you could use the "dirt pile excuse" to buy other attachments- like a box blade, back blade, and/or a landscape rake ;). Jay :)

Thank you for the suggestions and everyone's welcome to the forum. Glad to be onboard.

Does anyone have an opinion on the shovel attachment that you can order via Northern Tool that bolts to your bucket? Thanks again,Cary

Take some small bites with your bucket.

And curl the bucket early, something to do with breaking force (some one can explain it).
Enjoy!
