I just bought a brand new Kubota 3901 , new 5' Land Pride brush hog and a new Quick Hitch. The whole thing was set up at the dealer, driven onto a trailer, unloaded and I was brush hogging 30 min later. All was well until 1 hour into it, the brush hog completely detached from the hitch and was left 20' behind me. I hooked everything back up, scratched my head and continued working. Went out today , brush hogged 2 hours when 1 side detached , the pin became wedged under the arm of the quick hitch and the 3 point was now in a bind. I was able to elevate it enough (PTO shut down of course) get to level ground and try to get the brush hog reattached but the 3 point was just enough in a bind the it would not lower to the ground . One side was attached, the other side was below the quick hitch and the top arm was watching the whole thing laughing!
After phoning a friend and we tried a couple of things to try to get the hitch out of the bind so the 3 point would lower so I could reattach the brush hog (brush hog is sitting evenly on the ground) For the safety of the PTO, I disconnected it to make sure I did not get it in a bind also. In exasperation, I called my sales person telling him a needed a service call because without the ability to lift the brush hog up off the ground with jacks or pallet forks to unbind the 3 point, I was stuck. They are sending a mechanic from their shop and a new hitch tomorrow but as I am staring at the mechanism, I think I see what is wrong.
There are 2 spring loaded arms that extend over the pin on the brush hog the would appear to keep it from bouncing out but if you grab the arm, you can easily pull it up, 2 holes line up and it would appear that a cotter pin or bolt would go thru that would prevent that but possibly was not put on mine when the dealership set it up . Has anyone had this issue? Mine is the rounded yok and the Youtube videos all have demos on the square yok so it appears the spring arm is different. I will try to post pics.
