Newbe here, I just got my first tractor (BX2350) and i'm needing a 48 inch brush cutter. I've looked at a wood brand but I would like to know if anyone makes a model with out the rear wheel sticking way out the back. The woods brand looks like it sticks off 2.5 feet. any thoughts?

! You could remove the rear arm and wheel on any rotary cutter, but I would not recommend doing so. All your major manufacturors produce roatary cutters with rear wheel assemblies for a reason. The rear wheel prevents scalping and allows for a more evenness in cut as it helps the mower to track the ground along with the correct Top Link adjustments. You will quickly learn how to "swing" your rotary cutter correctly, but you will take out a few items during you learning curve . Use your new tractor safely and well and keep the posts coming. Jay

Or, do you want the tail wheel closer or further away from the cutter body? This would be the overall length of the cutter...if I'm understanding your question correctly.
I'd reckon most tail wheel brackets are about the same length, but since I've never measured that, I can't state that with complete certainty.
You could modify the bracket though.
If you don't want that tail wheel back there at all, you could remove the bracket (just bolted on).
I'm not sure that's a good idea though. The tail wheel supports the rear of a pretty heavy implement that is also pretty long. I think removal woul result in the cutter hitting the ground frequently, putting more stress on your tractor's 3PH and also cause a lot of sway.

Yes that was what I was wanting to know. If like you say they all come with the tail wheel then I guess I''ll go ahead and get the woods brand. Being a machinist I do see the need for the tail wheel. All that hanging off the back could bounce and brake something. thanks again

The King Kutter XB brand that TSC sells ($700.00) has two small wheels that are close to the body of the cutter rather than one large wheel sticking so far out the back. It's also orange and would match the BX real well

YAE,,,That's what I'm looking for. Went out on the web and seen it. I like that the wheels are close to the body of the deck. I could see my self tearing the wheel off the woods when turning.. I'm going to be using this to clean out about 1/2 ac. of woods behind my house. You might consider a slip clutch with the unit you buy just to protect the tractor and rotary mower. If you start cutting down some big saplings you just might damage the equipment. One or two inch stuff isn’t any problem, but larger than that you stand the chance of causing major damage.
Just my two cents.

Depends... On one of my mowers, the slip clutch is mounted to the pto driveline shaft at the tractor side..on another, it is mounted to the mower gearbox input shaft.. etc.
