- John Deere 4410, John Deere 4120, Kubota LX3310 cab, John Deere F725 Front Mount Mower, Swisher 60" pull behind mower. John Deere 4310 CUT (sold), Ford New Holland 575E Cab Backhoe (sold).
I sheared the bolt on my brush cutter the other day and the shaft came off the gearbox and started framming around. Just thought I would pass a warning to all to make sure the snap ring is on your gearbox yokes.
I have had this mower for years and never sheared a bolt. Had no reason to remove the shaft. Shaft is 1-3/8" and nobody had a snap ring to fit locally. I had to order a 25 pack from McMaster Carr which cost $7 + $7 shipping. I'll have $14 invested in a 50 cent part but can't afford to not have it on there.
I'm pretty sure I got lucky and the shaft caused no damage. I hit the PTO button quick when I heard the noise. PTO shaft on tractor is running true and no leaks so hopefully it's just put the snap ring on and replace the shear bolt.
