Brush Cutter question

I have a brush cutter that I tried to use for the first time today. The hydraulics were connected to a valve that normally controls a 4 in one bucket. I could not get the blades to turn consistently. With a hydraulic cutter, is there an in and out with the hoses? I did not get any instructions with the cutter.

It may be that you do not have the GPM's needed for the mower. Most rotary type hyd. attachments seem to be very GPM thirsty. It might take some homework on the mower, hyd. motor or both. Good luck.

#1 you need a valve that stays open. Most valves for 4-n-1s, etc. probably close when you release them.

#2 as rustyiron said, you need a fairly good flow, probably 10-15 gpm minimum. Again, what you have on the front of a tractor is not going to be designed for that (check the tractor specs, it may or may not have that much flow available).

It sounds to me that, if your tractor has enough flow, you need need a whole new hose and valve setup.

FWIW, my brush cutter runs in both directions, the blades are two sided. But the hoses are BIG, nothing like simple open-close hydraulic lines.

I agree that you need to look at the valve set-up. For a L48, you should have more than enough hydraulic flow.

My L48 has the juice according to the papers, so I ordered a new valve and hoses to run the volume to the front. I will let you know if if it works.

I got the plumbing done and tried out the brush cutter. Amazing! I will wack down a 2 inch tree. What i did find strange is that the rear 3 point hitch won't work at the same time as the brush cutter. I tried the valves but nothing worked till I unhooked the brosh cutter, raised the grader on the back, and then hooked the brush cutter back up.
