anyone familiar w/ hyco or wallace or international brands of brushhogs? prices seem very good, but never heard of them. any info appreciated.

A local farm/fleet store here carried Wallace for a few years, but are now in the process of selling their remaining stock of Wallace and replacing it with Farm Star made by Worksaver. I didn't care much for the Wallace, it seemed pretty cheaply built. The Worksaver unit seems more solid for the same price.

If you mean "HICO", aren't they the modern Howse...?
I just recently bought a Howse 5' and it is what it is-a lighter, cheaper shredder that will do most general work. I was told the gear box is slightly better than the next closest competitor, the King Kutter. I also noticed that the stump jumper/blade pan is a little better made on the Howse versus the KK. The Howse's looks like a traditional round pan, but the KK's looks like a an old twist off bottle cap with crimped edges. It must work fine, but it just looked a little cheap.
The King Kutter has a little more metal and bracing on it than the Howse does and is probably a little longer lasting.
Either way, I bought the Howse on price but at even money I might go with the KK and be be happy either way...

Howse, like most brands, makes different levels of duty mowers. They make heavy duty housings that would make the typical KK look like a tin can.
I bought the least of their mowers and it's pretty good.
Soundguy bought their heavy duty 10', and he seems to be tickled to death with it.
Of course, if I had had the extra money, I'd have bought a really good Woods mower for real longevity, but the Howse will do me fine for a long time, and then I'll weld it!

Yes, I should ad that I'm talking about the economy version here and not the heavier versions that Howse makes. Of course, I would have loved to gone out and gotten a Woods or a Dale Phillips, but at more than twice what I paid for this, I'll wait and see how long it lasts. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
A local dealer was advertising a 5 foot hico(wasn't sure of spelling) for $475. seems like a deal, but i called yesterday & he sold the last one on saturday. He's not sure when he'll get more or if price will be the same. Of course he still has the other brands I mentioned, but they are all more expensive.
