It would scare you to see some of jobs that some homeowners do, much less ones that are done at shops. I think that would depend more on your level of expertise, then what other guys are doing in their home shops.
I am mildly considering a repair job that involves splitting a 10,000 pound tractor in my driveway, so my opinon of what a homeowner does probably isn't valid for most sensible homeowners. Study some parts breakdown list of your tractor and decide for yourself what your getting into.
