Thought I'd post this for nh subcompact information. I was cutting my grass the other day and my tach stopped working. All other dash functions were fine. Turned out the tach cable broke at around 250 hours. I was able to remove the 2 engine side panels and the 4 bolts that hold the dash assembly. The cable came off in just a few minutes. I just had to wait a day to get a new cable from my local dealer. 22.00 later I had my new cable installed and it's good as new. Just thought I'd put this out there in case anyone else runs across the same problem. Thanks

Same issue on my TZ25DA. No tach workie. There is a part for a cable on mine too. What diagnosis did you do before determining that this was what was wrong on yours? Or did you just try the cable as the first thing to attempt?

thx.

Boy I haven't heard "tachometer cable" in years.
I remember years ago when they were in cars hooked to the distributor.
We'll never see that again.
I would have thought an electronic sensor like a proximity switch.

Mackendw - The first thing i did was google the cable to if it was mechanical or electrical. Since it was mechanical that pretty much ruled out anything electrical (at least I was hoping). I then followed the cable from the tach to the engine. Had nothing to lose so I disconnected the end under the dash. It spun freely but when I pulled on it the inside cable pulled right out. That pretty much told the story... the inside cable was broke. Thought I was going to have to pull the steering wheel to get the dash up high enough to get under it. Thankfully, my dad was able to stop over and lift the dash while I stuck my hand up under the dash to reconnect the new one.

Did you find anything out on yours?

Hey Big Dooley, I see in you have a stainless steel front mount sprayer tank. Sounds interesting. Any chance you can post a picture of it? I'm always looking for alternative spray options. I have a Fimco sprayer that I mount on my 3 pt hitch but yours sounds a lot nicer.

Sorry for the long delay. Did an oil change this morning for the summer cutting season and I found a
loose cable going into the alternator. Bada-bing! It was the tachometer cable ....looks like it just
backed off. Put it back in and tightened it up and works again.

Bonus!
