Broken seat spring - what would you do?

I have a 15 YO Deere with spring seat. Suddenly one of the four springs inside broke. Now it will not hold up anyone of any weight. See image of two springs. The seat action is like a scissor lift. Because of the design, I would guess that the tension on each spring may be in the neighborhood of 200 pounds.

If I can get a spring, a new seat (part #RE213244, $1,000) is unnecessary. I'm looking for opinions and suggestions.

I/ve had one on m M4700 for about 6 years. I just slid some blocks of wood under the seat to get me to the correct height.
I don't travel that fast.

Barring that option - Measure the wire diameter, the OD of the spring coil and the overall length from hook to hook. Then go to Century Spring (they got bought by someone recently called MW Components so the website changed names and format). They have an extensive inventory of springs and you can search by a billion different dimensions and characteristics. A lot like the McMaster website, but very much specialized. You should be able to find something very close if not exact. Century Spring | Stock & Custom Springs | MW Components

And in either case, replace both at the same time. It might have been a defect, or a warning that the other one is going to go soon too.

Oh absolutely. I have had them make custom springs for my job in the past, which is how I know of them. They are probably the biggest spring manufacturer in the country. But if you think $1000 to replace the entire seat was high, wait until you see the cost to custom make a run of springs for you! And it won't be just 2 springs as the MOQ will be way too high. These are stock springs somewhere as they are a very common configuration and size range.

In fact, taking a SWAG from the photo, this may be very close or identical:

MW Components manufactures extension springs in a variety of sizes and materials. Spring 5057CS has an OD of 1.5 Inch and length of 8.25 Inch.

Buy a set of four and replace the lot. (Keep three old ones as spares)

Actually, I would send an unbroken spring for them to duplicate .
Joking aside, it will be easier for them to test tension with a good one.

I am truly amazed. When I went looking, including that website, all I could find was the price of a whole seat. You located my model and exact seat that I am dealing with.

My dealer is 45 minutes away and I have a short list of other items I need to get from them. Looks like priority to make a visit has been increased.

I would heat the spring, peel off (up) one loop so it sticks up like the broken piece. Cut to be similar to the old hook, heat the spring and quench it, Put it back and assume another good few years

These are 8 1/4 inch springs for a trampolene
20 springs if one is not enough add more springs
as it comes with 20 of them.

And I was thinking of TIG welding the broken piece back on and include extra material at the break for strength. Figured wouldn't bother any of the tempering in the spring. Maybe it would last for a few more years. Is that another red neck method?

LOL I tried a tension er spring with a stick just the other day and it didn't work out, so took the path above. Otherwise id be right with ya.

You can buy a whole new adjustable suspension kit for $160 that is a scissor type with springs just like yours. I bought one to put under my ZT mower seat 2 years ago and it works great. tracseats.com in Alabama.

You might try heating the very end coil and rebending it. It's not a watch. Likely any farm Equipment Dealer would have a spring that is close enough. Good Luck.
