Broken hose, lift stuck in air

So, if that happens while somebody is in the cage while higher up than whatever ladders you have, how do you get them down?

Seems like a PROPER system would allow a slow, controlled descent without hydraulics.

I guess you call the fire department. They’re designed not to give you a free ride down when the hose bust. The problem is the valves are directly on the cylinder and can’t be bypassed. I’ve seen vertical lifts with overrides but I’ve never seen a boom lift which requires multiple cylinder working to stay level with a manual override.

I talked to the manufacturer's tech support line, they said the only safe way to get out of the situation I had was to use a ladder or another lift. There's no safe way to release the pressure on the check valve to allow the fluid to escape in a controlled way. The high pressure hose I broke was the only hose going up to the cage that makes the machine inoperable (muphy's law), any other hose would be a leak or loss of only one function. If they have to repair a machine in that state they do the same thing I did: use a ladder or second lift to install a temporary high pressure hose up to the basket and lower things to a working height, then do the repair.

I decided to buy one of these emergency rope ladders like they use for the upper levels of large homes. It packs up small and I can hang it off the back side of the cage so it's out of the way.
