I have a 09 Mecury Mariner and for the second time the thing went from driving speed to idle. I mean the first time I'm on the freeway doing 65 and bam no power and the trans was searching for a proper gear. The shop I took it to cleaned the throttle body and that was good for a month. Yesterday the same thing happened but this time the check engine light did not go on. Any idea's????:( I can't trust this thing and I go far places with this. It seems if I turn the car off it clears it and it will run normal again but for how long.

My uncle had a Suburban that did the same thing. Ended up being the fuel pump. It could really be anything.

It would just die at highway speed then after a few minutes restart and run fine for a week. It drove the mechanics nuts as many electrical issues can. Its one of them things that if they are not there to see it when it actually happens its about impossible to find.

what code did they get from computer diag? Sounds like posible throtle position sensor or accelerator pedal sensor, were you unable to rev up engine? If throtle response was OK, may be trans range sensor. Is it out of warranty? May be PCM updates if program issue? Post code if possible and I can look it.

I have had a few in the tank fuel pumps act like this. They may run fine and then not start or may start and then quit. Sometimes when they quit I take a mallet and strike the fuel tank and try it and if it starts immediately I figure I need to check the fuel flow. Lots of other gremlins can cause the same thing but this fuel pump gremlin and I are on a first name basis. :D
