Broke front hub

I think it would be really fun to have a plane and fly but I know I could never afford it. Besides, when my tractor or truck break, I'm only a foot or two above the ground.

Yeah things do tend to get a bit more serious when breakage happens. They say the propeller is just a fan to keep the pilot cool. If you think not, just let it stop and watch him break out into a heavy sweat. You do need to keep in mind that airplane crashes always make the news simply because they are so infrequent, not so with much more common car crashes which barely raise an eyebrow. You can fly a small plane pretty darn slow, even down to 30MPH or so or even less if the wind is blowing, which almost anyone can walk away from as long as you manage to keep your wits about you and not panic.

Airplanes and cost: years ago, my brother had a 6-place turbo prop, which he sold when he came to the sad conclusion that every hour he had flown it for the past few years had cost him about $5000 (payments, insurance, operating costs, fees, etc.,) and he would be better off flying first class everywhere he wanted to go. The Porsche went too, when he figured out he was only using about 3000 miles a year. I offered to put some miles on it for him, but...

Yeah there's a lot of ego wrapped up with flying and the faster they go the more they cost. The worst are the doctors and lawyers who typically buy more airplane than they can fly so they're always about 5 miles behind the plane and often attempt to fly them through rock piles. Then the family sues the heck out of anyone who ever touched the plane plus the company who built it. They just about succeeded in shutting down general aviation altogether before congress stepped in and put a stop to the nonsense lawsuits. Thing is, I found you couldn't make any money in the business because everyone works for peanuts so they can fly. While it was nice getting free use of a new airplane every year, and it was OK for getting the girls, you can't digest aluminum and it has no food value if you could. The landlord doesn't care either. Just try living in LA on Wichita wages sometime. I finally came to the conclusion that I couldn't afford to work in the business any longer so bailed. Flying is mostly for people with more money than they need or want, like sports cars and yachts.
