Finally got around to using the backhoe after cutting trees for a 1000 ft road, on my third hour of digging stumps, *SNAP* Dipper cylinder broke in half!!! Wasn't doing anything unusual, funny the cylinder looks like cast aluminum inside /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I don't have the specifics, but have heard this more than once. Check with your dealer as I believe Kubota is aware of the issue and is replacing the cylinders.

It would help to fill out your profile. We have no idea as to what model tractor you have. Some Kubota models have had problems with the cylinders, and others have not. I assume that you have one of the model tractors that the cylinder is an issue with..

Ben…
The three main parts in a ‘hydraulic cylinder’ are; Rod, Piston, and the Cylinder. Do you really mean the cylinder broke in half? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
At the attaching point? Or did the cylinder bore split? KennyV.

Same thing happend to me with a BH75. So if its a BH75 or I think there may be another model that is new with the same problem. The clylinder was designed too small for the dipper clylinder and Kubota is replacing with a larger diameter cylinder.

Does anyone know the diameter of the replacement cylinder? It would be nice to know so that owners could check the cylinders on BH75s to see if they have the new or old cylinders.

I don't remember Kubota issuing the diameter of the new cylinder but here is the new part number. 7K501-32020 I have got to say Kubota reacted very quickly as the new parts look up programs already reflect the new part number.

They may have reacted quickly with a new part, however that haven't issued a general recall of the machines that were sold with the defective cylinder. Seems that they are only replacing them as they break. A company that doesn't do a recall of a known defect isn't a good corporate citizen in my opinion. Kubota should have pictures of ostriches on their machines........ the company keeps there head in the sand just like an ostrich..... /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

Updated profile, I have a L3400 with a BH75.

It was the Piston that broke, I believe the rod and the piston are the same thing IE Piston rod. But generally the whole unit is called a cylinder even though technically the cylinder is the inside... Anyway the dealer told me they ordered one and will have it in three to four days. The replacement will be a larger unit. He said that Kubota only changes them when they fail. Odd they do not have some on hand for this then...

The piston is the flat like round aluminum thing on the inside that you can't see. The rod is the chrome or dark rod that goes in and out.

As I said above my rod also cracked in half in July.
Here is a little info on the updated clyinder

Rod on new cylinder is 1 1/2" ,
one of the numbers on it DE 65/30x495 21 5

CONCERN:

There are reports of the diper cylinder bending on the BH75 Backhoe.

SOLUTION:

The new repalcement cylinder specifically for the BH75, which includes a 32mm rod, is now available.

Well I’m glad they are getting you fixed up… but /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif is there an issue with the piston, as Ben Towle said “looks like cast aluminum inside”. Along with the bending/breaking of the rod.
JerryG has the most concise description “The piston is the flat like round aluminum thing on the inside that you can't see. The rod is the chrome or dark rod that goes in and out.” /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Also as stated by BandDcabinet “Does anyone know the diameter of the replacement cylinder? It would be nice to know so that owners could check the cylinders on BH75s to see if they have the new or old cylinders.” /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

It is beginning to sound like the replacement is just anything that is available? Rod diameters of 1 ½”, 3cm, 32mm?? Those are all different measurements…
1 ½” is 38.1mm; 3cm is 30mm; 32mm is Hmmmm…. ? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif somewhere between the two???
It would be nice if the replacement was consistent /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif… KennyV.

Sorry about that Ken, 1 1/2 " deffinitly, I miss read the other scale and do not have the rule i used. I did not measure the cylinder.

I measured mine today with a caliper. Both cylinder rods measure 1.200 inches or 30.7 mm (1.21x25.4) so I'm not sure what to think... Are these the new cylinders?? I could not find a part number. I took delivery in mid July. I wonder if there is a serial number after which the new cylinders became the standard? My BH75 is Serial number 10343. What do you think are these the larger cylinders??

I would go with the post above mine that says 32mm. My tractor is 80miles away so i cannot double check till weekend.
I may have been way off since i was in hurry.
I would go to the Kubota site and and use the contact us selection. That is what i did asking about if was bigger cylinder. 36 hrs later a kubota rep called me and explained about newer replacement cylinder and told me he called my dealer to make sure he was ordering the newer cylinder.
Maybe you can ask how to know if you have the new or old cylinder and you are worryied it will break out of warranty.
Plus you'ed rather replace now since you've heard so many problem. A planned exchange out of cylinder is a lot better than it breaking out in the field and Hydralic fluid all over the place. Kubota rep was excellent with me.

I checked mine and it has the 30X495 stamped on the cylinder casing. And a part number of 7K501-32012.
I have not had mine replaced... is this the old part number???
The Serial number on my BH75 is 10635.

Jason,
I really do not know ,although the 30x495 is same as what is on mine. I do not remember seeing a PK number. and you're model number is a little differnet than the post from dealer above reply. I would give that part number to you're dealer to see if its the replacement or e-mail Kubota like i did to be sure.

What does a cylinder cost, anyway?

I don't know, it was warranty so everything was free. Dealer even picked it up 12miles away which i know he cut me a break with the pickup.
